Oh, I really like the idea of new icons. The actual portrait/landscape switching code is tiny bit broken, too -- it'd be what we call a Junior Job to fix for someone who wants to play with a bit of easy C++...

Just squeezed for time but the idea is that those and some others will come your way tomorrow.

Btw - I'm kinda doing mockups for a new icon-set for the tools and I remembered that there where some issue with hoovering submenus (like Brush -> submenu: fill, gradient etc)? It was impossible in Calligra? Am I remembering that correctly?

Yes, hovering submenus won't work, at least not without a lot of coding.

Ok so these are the ones I've done as SVG's (the layer icons exist as dark/light). Do they work? I wanted to keep them simple and straight forward, no bevels or shading.

EDIT: oh pretend the arrows in the folder-in folder-out icons are level. I forgot to change that before doing this mockup.
Also would an inverted "delete layer" icon make sense? Just to make it stick out some more to avoid mistake-clicking?

Yes, these are awesome! For delete layer, even some red color might make sense because it's so dangerous. (Well, undo exists, of course). Inverted would be good also.

Brilliant, those are done (although the dropdown menu under "create new layer" has to get fixed to). Ok so I just got an idea for the tools aswell. Although I think the frames aren't that good considering the tiny size and the large amount of information needed (considering how many different tools there are etc). So I might need to rething these.

From top left to bottom right:
Straight Line, Square Shape, Crop, Ruler, Polygon Shape, Elliptic Shape,
Edit Pattern, Multibrush, Move, Edit Gradient, Fill, Brush.

Do these icons also work on dark backgrounds?

Nice style Jens!
Maybe a little work with to simplify them more, with emphasis on the sihlouette of each tool.
Thanks for sharing!

Slangkamp: You raise a very good point. I'll try the layer ones on dark too before sending them off. The tools need to be redone I think. Btw whats the best from a devs perspektive? I mean can you have two, one light grey for dark themes and one dark grey for light ones or will that mess something up?

Odysseus: thanks :) I'll have to change them and the idea is to skip the square around them and simplify them to the point where its just siluettes really. Maybe a tiny tiny tiny gradient in them from dark-dark grey to just dark-grey.

probably pretty relevant to this thread: http://blenderartists.org/forum/showthr ... d-thinking

Basically, Blender made it's UI elements scalable with the ppi setting. It would doubtlessly be a bit of a project to do this in Krita, but I imagine it would future proof the program in a bunch of ways.

The icon theme and color theme are pretty independent from each other, so icons have to work no matter what the color theme. That is a bit challenging, of course...

That is an excellent idea. How about adding it to the wishlist?

scalability with screen res is something to be done at the toolkit level -- krita sketch uses qml and already does that, actually. So no need to add a wish to bugs.kde.org :-)

The layer ones work on all of them except Krita Dark in which case its too much dark-grey-on-dark-grey for it to function. The alternative is creating a white outline for them but that would make them look weird.
I've removed the white background in the folder-in/out icons but kept white fill in the "duplicate layer" one and "delete layer" as without it it they looked strange.

Question is if I should remove the white in them too... Maybe it sticks out too much and at least in the "Duplicate Layer" and "Properties" thats not so good and make the "knops" on the sliders solid dark-grey? Anyway heres a test with a darker theme.
