Interesting icon work, though I'd like to point the fact that to get icons working with any color theme, you should avoid using a single color like this. Best is to always combine a light and a dark color to can see it on any color theme.

Yeah the tricky bit is that if you put more shades into play you get to the same problem as before. By sticking as close as possible to one you avoid the garish bevelling that was the issue with the old one. Also by sticking to greyscale - they can work with non-greyscale themes.
The alternative, if they don't work, would be to create outlines (stickerify* them) or button shapes for them but that might also clutter it up. Tbh, and this is of course my personal tastes and nothing else I prefer the single shade, flat icons for system icons as it creates a cleaner look. _______________________________________- *"stickerify" is a word I just invented for when flat icons have outlines making them look like cut-out vinyl stickers. EDIT: did two different with white and grey fill in Gimp to show what I ment. On the one hand they are easier to read depending on what theme you have, the downside is that they are far more tricky to read than the plain ones on most themes.

Wow, that's a lot of work Jens.
But, I have to say honnestly they are not my taste. Maybe too rounded, or too fat oultline for me. Or maybe , my taste is just different for them I'm maybe too used to see Faenza theme on layer docker I think the first bottom icons ( new layer , up , down ) work pretty nicely on dark theme with plain dark icons + a little outline grey around. Might be a ref for inspiration. by the way, I like your idea of little 'folder' icon with arrow for moving them. |

Thanks although the outlines was just to show how it would look with one... these are the ones I'm going for. Although they are rounded too I guess. I'm gonna try it out with the soft outline in the Faenza ones too.
Ok David, you mean more like this?

There is no huge hurry, I want the layerbox icons for the 2.8 release, and that's January in any case. Though of course it's good to have some beta testing.

Ok so this is the final before christmas - I've assumed the layerproperties are fine since no ones commented on them
hope you all like them!

I like them! It's easiest for me if you could make a zipfile or tarball of the svg and png and then mail it to boud@valdyas.org.

Great job, I like those. How do they look when you hover them? |

Hey, I like them a lot too now ; really thanks for keeping work on them. Exept for one detail ; the last icon ; I read it as a ' prohibited' sign , and not a deletion 'sign'. A 'cross', or a little 'trash' would work better for me. |

David: Ah yeah, this is just me disliking situations where there is a plus and a cross sign, meaning add/delete. But you're absolutely right, it does look more like a "one way street" kind of sign doesn't it? A trash can seems to blurry, it would be better with something that says "nono don't click me unless you are absolutely sure this is what you want!"
Perhaps if the cross symbol is white with a black outline? Although then, on a white background it would look hollow and be less easy to spot than the "add layer"... I'll get to it in a few days (its christmas tomorrow here in Sweden so its a bit hectic now) Michel: Thanks. [about hovering] Well that I haven't looked at at all yet. I'd assume it will follow your desktop theme (or maybe I misunderstood you)

oh, yes this one reminded me a street sign.
A ' x ' instead of the ' - ' minus symbol into the circle would work better for me (( sorry to be picky , I can't help )) |

Haha thats fine - nitpick away dude.
Which reminds me, I may need your nitpicking skills 24/7 in a while because I thought I should try my hand at the tool icons next. Are you up for that?
