You could use the tree arrows triangle symbol for recycling. It's known everywhere in the world as symbol for "trow away your trash responsibly" and it's already used on the red trashcan icon for deleting brushes. Something like this: For extra warning you could make it red. |

Maybe I assumed the icon sets had to include an "on hover" version of the buttons when they don't. At least here in Windows they light up. Is that's the way Krita's interface works? *Turns to the devs* Note the "Move layer into group" highlight. It would be neat if you could figure out a preview of the highlighted buttons, I think |

Charblaze: Thats a great idea! Ok today is Christmas Eve (when we here in Sweden celebrate it) so not tonight... but tomorrow?
Michael.G: I think its the same in both Windows and Linux - that thats handled by the system theme. Or atleast I know that it changes if I edit my theme here. Or do you mean they go from transparent to solid (making them light up)? If so... good question Lets see what Boud says when he's got a chance to look at the icons.

Ok so this is the delete layer PNG. Does that work? Or is it too blurry?

Yep it's hard to see what it is, doesn't make me think of "delete layer" directly.
Another idea: maybe a sort of skull icon could work ? |

Skull icon Badass !
but can hurt to see it daily. I remember one of my old software using it to clean layer, I hated this. I thought of something symbolic and easy to get like this, here : |

Héhéhé yep I remember too this particular "clean layer" button, but I liked this Though I agree something more neutral would probably be a better choice. I like your trash can proposal. |

The Icon Theme i have installed results in this icons for the Layer Docker:
(Faenza-Radiance) I am satisfied with this visual representation and i have never accidentally clicked on the delete Layer button. What speaks against a red cross? Individualism? Uniqueness? Punk? |

Vasco: Nothing "speaks against" a red cross. Its just that the main point was to remove the garish icons that where there so I aimed for a monochrome one. The cross is just my personal pet-peeve thing. I don't like it with the "plus" sign because it makes me think of math and a cross makes me go into "duplication" instead of "minus".
The upside with using monochrome ones is that you stick to the idea of symbols instead of colours to signify something which goes with the KDE design guidelines (as they are). David & Tim: I'll make a trashcan one tomorrow - but then I think its time to decide what we want instead of doing new ones. Trashcan, cross, minus, recycle, etc.

hmm okay, difficult.. a skull is too hardcore imo, the recycle sign does not represent deleting
The trashcan looks good. If you haven't considered yet maybe something like this? Okay that's a traffic sign too - good icons are so difficult to create... |

Right, ok, lets wrap this up shall we and make a choice?
What do you guys think about these - is there any which works better? The recycle, the can, the sign, the minus or the cross?

Good job ! 2nd or last one ( with a preference for last one ). (Note : I like the 'recycle' icon for bug 329159, https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=329159 ) |

I see it similar. |

New icons are in!
They look really nice! The layer-operations even feel faster with them! (Though the hover-icons aren't really refferencing properly yet) |
