Latest stable release was in august 2013, do we have any sort of ETA on when we are going to be seeing 2.8 or 2.9 stable release on Linux? (2.7 didn't work out so well for me so I'm using the development version)

They said the 2.8 release is scheduled for February 26th, so unless they change plans you have to wait a week.

Yes. We're trying to keep to a sort of six month schedule that almost always turns into a seven month and a bit more schedule.

So can expect a stable version sometime in March?

Yes. I want to release next Wednesday, in fact. I had wanted to release last Wednesday, but we faced some coordination issues.
