I'm unsure if this is discussed elsewhere but I thought I would link you to the blendernation's spill on the "Super City" project.
http://www.blendernation.com/2014/02/20/super-city-was-developed-with-blender-gimp-and-krita/ How ever what I find most interesting is the 1 (of 2) comments on it that goes as:
Considering that Krita is now greenlighted - wouldn't this help those gamers out there making ... well games? Would this be appropriate for a future idea since we are getting a lot of gamers on board? |

If it can be mapped to Krita colorspaces, it might be possible to support the format. A quick search indicates that it's just grayscale, so it could work and might even be easy to do. If someone wants to submit a patch that adds the format we can include it.

Yes... If it's just grayscale, it should be easy enough, if the file format itself is known.

Sorry about the wait!
I'm not a game maker so I don't really know but it seems that RAW-16 format is the most common. Here is a website that discusses its uses a bit more http://udn.epicgames.com/Three/TerrainHeightmaps.html. Perhaps it would be better to bring this idea to the steam/gaming community and see what they want? |

Hm, that looks really simple... The biggest problem is what to call it in the krita source tree since the name 'raw' obviously conflicts with the existing raw filter

Krita now has support for r16 heightmaps -- the ones that are just a stream of 16 bit gray values.

Awesome :3 Now we can pitch Krita to game places like http://freegamer.blogspot.com.au/. |

Please, do And mention the kickstarter.
8 bit heightmaps now also work, with the proviso that Krita wants to call them .r8, not .raw -- the .raw extension conflicts with the Panasonic .raw camera raw files, and Panasonic actually has a proper mimetype registered. |

I've submitted something to them and have said that Krita will be supporting it soon. Perhaps another announcement on Kickstarter? Hopefully they'll take it. Gamers are good :3 Though - you need to update your main page with NEWS: KRITA NOW SUPPORTS .... and tell us what you have done recently :3 (The new HDR feature etc etc) |

I thought we did a pretty good job with having development news on our main page:
http://krita.org/item/240-last-week-in-krita-week-23-24 http://krita.org/item/239-new-in-krita- ... -and-gamma In any case, yes, a new kickstarter update will come tonight. I've got lots of new stuff to mention! But I first need to make packages. |
