We've got the provisional OK from Kickstarter. Here's the preview: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/kr ... n=4060f48e.

However, I need some help! I've got a set of contacts I send press releases and news info to, but those are mostly in or connected with the free software world. If you know of websites that publish news about art applications, please add them to this discussion, so I can contact them as well. I'm especially interested in stepping right out of our comfort zone and targetting artists using OSX, because of the super-stretch goal :-).

Please, add as many forums, news sites and other places where you think this kickstarter should be published! We want to step right outside the free software world and make the rest of the world sit up and pay attention!

http://lifehacker.com/

These two aren't art related but like to show support for Kickstarter projects and have wide user base.

Interesting suggestion -- do you have an idea about the best angle to approach them?

I think for boingboing
Mark deals with most design and art related stuff
http://boingboing.net/author/mark_frauenfelder_1
http://boingboing.net/about
Either approach him directly or they have a suggest link button on their site
http://boingboing.net/suggest.html

For Lifehacker I think Whitson Gordon is their Editor-In-Chief, he handles all Windows/Ubuntu posts,
http://whitsongordon.com/
whitson@lifehacker.com
They also have their own system for commenting called Kinja, might have to join that to post a comment.

One feedback I've gotten more than once is, please add subtitles to the video. Who can help out with that make a set of subtitles tomorrow? I cannot do that, since I am in the video myself... Please ping me here on or irc if you want to do this and need the original video file.

I have written down the text from the video but am not sure about some words (in bold). If someone can tell me if the words are correct and also check the entire text, I can add the subtitles later today, hopefully there wont be a power cut at my place...

Hi, I am Boudewijn.
I am a maintainer for Krita.
Krita is an awesome painting application and its totally free, you can download it for Windows or install it on Linux.
An app for painting, we have just released our latest version, Krita 2.8 and its awesome, it is the best release ever.
And that's because we had Dmitry working on it full time for six whole months, sponsored by the community, that's you guys.
And now we want to do the same for the next release, Krita 2.9. Dmitry is available again for six months of work,
And that's where you come in, we need your help to fund Dmitry's work.

Hi, I am Dmitry, I started working on Krita five years ago and since then I developed many well-known features like Canvas Rotation, Wrap Around Mode and Extended Tablet Support. Now we are going to make Krita 2.9 an outstanding release.
It will have High Dynamic Range Imaging Support, Improved Line Quality and High Performance and more; it will have the features you choose.

And not only that, we have got Sven as well, Sven Langkamp. He's just finished University, he's been working on Krita for the past ten years.

Hi, I am Sven. Since I started working on Krita ten years ago, I have implemented many of the core part of Krita.

He's done some really great things as well. We've made a list of twenty four features that you can pick from and choose which ones you want implemented. Help us make Krita 2.9 really great by sponsoring Dmitry and Sven.

And have fun painting.

The only mistake I spotted is "core part" -- should be "core parts". Thanks for helping! The video itself is at http://www.valdyas.org/~boud/Krita_Video_new.mkv -- I guess you need that to add the subtitles, we can't do much with srt files at kickstarter, as far as I know!

Good point in the feedback by Scott Petrovic, and something to discuss. We originally intended to have every feature kind of separate, and people could donate towards the feature they wanted most. But that doesn't really work out with the way kickstarter works.

We could have made the rewards system work that way, a bit, but it's not a good fit.

So I've now added "vote for your features" from the 30 euro reward -- and then we have to create some kind of polling thing for our backers to use :-)

I'm really, really busy right now, but I did give you the feedback on Krita on the kickstarter. I hope it was welcomed.

Why not something like this for the Banners?

Image

I can give you the file and the font I used if you want to use them for goals. I also recommend an easy-to-look-at grid of the goals.

Yes, it was welcome :-). I took a look at the rewards, added another screenshot and asked for subtitles. I'm really not an artist: I like your header design, but I cannot make them myself. I'm not sure I can actually do a grid in the html editor that kickstarter gives.

I can make them for you if you want. Just tell me what you want for the icons on the left. But it will have to wait until Wednesday because I have five things due this week and I can just squish it in on Wed afternoon X3

The grid is just a image of all the rewards in a visual way. You have it before the explanation to give a sense of what you want without having to read everything. People don't like to read much so visuals entice people more.

I think everyone should have a look at Might No 9 if you haven't seen it https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/mightyno9/mighty-no-9?ref=home_popular

I reckon if we stick close to that, we are more likely to get more people.

Krita Video

what's wrong with it?
BACKGROUND
i think the pure black background is not a good choice because empty space doesnt catch the viewer eye. humans tend to be more interest in animated stuff biologically. We are like predators in some way and we notice a lot the sense of movement and colors changes.

the chair at the beggining is not the "CEO mainteiner 's chair" and create a poor feeling for the project. If the project looks poor means less money. I know it doesnt have any sense with the code quality but hey! is marketing time!

+++Solution
bright colors are better than dark colors to create a warm feeling.
i think there is a vast image gallery to select more appropiate images. is not about style, is something about "how finished they look".
We can use Chroma for the composite.

TEXT
There is no title with your names as in TV shows , and Kickstarter is a show
Subtitles can help as other guy said because non english people can then understand.
We can hardcode them or embed them.

CAMERA PLANES
Why we use so close-up planes? those kind of planes is like grabbing the viewer`s head and say, " look at me, this WORDS are important" . So we dont need to over use them. The viewer can see his/her personal space intimidated.
If we want to add more dynamism to the camera maybe we could make 2 shots from diferent angles.

OTHER USERS
What about a slogan said by some of the users in their original lenguages with subtitles?
"Lets bring Krita to the next level"
And we close the video with the idea of unity across the world. Then logo appears and fade out to black.
What about quotes from users taken from the forum. like

" I'm a professional artist and have been using Photoshop pretty much exclusively for the past 15 years or so,...Krita's Drawing tools and built in smoothing make it an absolute joy to work with"
Quote from SGW user.

CONCLUSSION
We need a video that shows the best of krita In 3 ways:
-the final quality results you can obtain with Krita.(not Sketchy or too simple images). Of course we can use a "sketchy image" when we talk about the sketch feature because this helps to show the feature.
-the impact of the features
-Screens of code (we can do it because is open source) good also for programming students.

The video in general must be bright and the palette needs to be coherent with content. Purples, Blue look. Adds a corporative look nd makes all the contents the same look.
Also a Water mark icon as TV shows imo.

If we lunch the video as it is right now maybe we will not impact as much as we can. What do you think?

Well, I rather like the video as it is -- but apart from subtitles, there's little else we can do about it anyway.

It took me a while to convert the uncooperative MKV file format. But here are the files with readable subtitles.
https://www.dropbox.com/s/q10l12hj3as2hog/Krita_Subtitles_FonatA.mp4
https://www.dropbox.com/s/vpzjzff85vjbr03/Krita_Subtitles_FonatB.mp4

I was also thinking about adding some graphics to jazz up the video a bit and heres a test
Image

The Brush can be animated to reveal the names and titles, the cuts in the vid are a little abrupt but I will try to make it work. The background will have some gentle animation as well. I will need at least a day to do this animation but should be cool. Is there still time for this ?
