Hi, : )
In my opinion, the names of the Ascension and the Declension stylus sensor parameters are not user-friendly (esp. for noobs), although I suppose there are many opportunities to use them. Also they may cause mis- or word-for-word translations if a translator doesn't know that the parameters are named after astronomical coordinates, and translate the words into a language which doesn't share the same vocabulary with English at word-level. In Mypaint it seems that non-European translators made efforts for the words. I think that the parameters should be renamed to something like 'Tilt angle/Tilt direction'. I'd appreciate your opinions. |

Yeah, I agree we should change the names as well. They are arcane even for native english speakers
As far as we in IRC could tell Declination is supossed to be the perpendicularness of the stylus to the tablet, with 0 being horizontal, and 90 perfectly perpendicular. So I guess that be 'Tilt-angle' And Ascension is depending on the x & y tilt, being 0 when the stylus nib points toward you and change clockwise from -180 to +180. So that would be 'tilt-direction' or 'tilt-rotation'. I am in favour here of using 'Tilt-direction', as I find rotation confusing with the existing rotation parameter. It also gives the idea of visualising the Ascension as a compass where 0 is north. Do you feel comfortable with these terms? We have already changed around some names of terms in Krita to make life more comfortable for translators, if you have any other problems, we can discuss and come to a solution. |

Thank you for the detailed description TheraHedwig I have no problem with that.
Should I post this to the bugtracker? Did you already changed them or are you planning to do so? |

It's already changed, in dmitry's subbranch for changing names. Here's the mailing list items for it: http://mail.kde.org/pipermail/kimagesho ... 12338.html |
