I mentioned this a while back and after using Krita a lot more I feel even more strongly that it would be an improvement, so I thought I would bring it up again!
It would be nice in the interface to see the name of the brush you are using - while you are using it. I know you can see it in the brush editor, and you can see it in the brush picker if you hover over it. It's not the same thing as the associative connection you can make by seeing the name while actually working with it. If you have an associative memory you connect the behavior of the brush with its name, but if you never actually see the name (when picking quickly and returning to the canvas) you have to try to connect the preview image with the behavior - and the previews are too similar and not large enough to use a distinctive mnemonic image for every brush - the brush designer is so good that you can make and save many useful brushes that are quite distinctive in their function. Names are really the only way to keep them organized. Maybe in the window header, or in the header of the brush picker? It doesn't have to be huge, or flashing or animated!

This is already happening
Development versions of Krita have the name of the brush on the lower infobar, next to active-selection info. |

Having the name of the currently active layer in lower infobar would also be useful.
The idea is to be able to work in canvas only mode most of the time. Keeping the lower infobar and toolbars doesn't take much space on canvas only mode, but then I can't see which layer is active (ie. no layer dock). There's also no Toolbox dock then, but at least that can be fixed by manually adding a toolbar with the tool icons to the left side, for example. |

Thanks, Thera! I do see it in the latest windows build, it's exactly perfect!
