Before the end of the year we want to run a kind of "second" kickstarter for 2015. Or course, in 2016, we'll do the yearly big kickstarter to raise funds for creating features and improving performance and so on, but this is special. Without some extra effort, we'll never be able to create an OSX version of Krita that is properly integrated with OSX, stable and fast. Heck, without a fund raiser we won't even be able to afford the hardware to develop an OSX version of Krita on. My estimation is that a decent port can be done in 3 to 4 months, including packaging. It should be a bit easier now that we've got a Qt5-base to work on! So, to fund the time and the hardware, we need 15.000 euros, excluding the money needed for rewards.
So, I'd like input here on a couple of topics... * Stretch goals This is a tough one for me. Once Krita has been ported and is good to go, what else can we do? I don't think integration with Core Image is in any way realistic, that would take at least another three months. An iOS port is useless, since Krita can never be published in Apple's app stores. * Rewards Here are a couple of ideas already: first edition box with krita for OSX (dvd or usb stick?), handbook with screenshots for osx, keychains with kiki engraved (because the shiny aluminium fits well with Mac design), black turtlenecks with kiki on the breast... What else would be nice, and could be considered topical for OSX/Mac? * Outreach Our traditional community is Linux and free software. That's where we got most publicity the last two times. How are we going to reach the Mac world? I know there's a lot of interest, because we keep getting asked when we're going to do something like that. |
