This is mainly for inspiration for the developers, and some brainstorming, and not meant as a critique of Krita.
I've been using the horribly named, Clip Studio Paint recently on a TabletPC with a touch screen and Wacom pen, and I think they've done many things right when it comes to their touch interface. This article sums it up pretty nicely. http://surfaceproartist.com/blog/2013/8 ... ace-pro-ui They've managed to make the interface accessible to clumsy fingers, while still keeping all the functionality there. It's worth a look. Moving the canvas also works very naturally. You can use one finger to move the canvas, pinch to zoom and twist to rotate the canvas. |

Just bumping my own topic here from two years ago.
Touch interface may not be a big priority, as most users are probably not using a touchscreen, but there is one feature that would make touch awesome in Krita, and that is twist to rotate the canvas. Pinch to zoom and pan already works great, both on Linux and Windows, so just adding twist to rotate the canvas would be great. It could have a few degrees snap threshold, so you don't rotate the canvas accidentally when you want to zoom or pan. |

hi,
Krita is starting to spend more time on touch interfaces every since the Surface Pro line up has been getting more popular. There are a lot of things in the UI that need to be thought about to be able to accommodate different sizes and uses. These are some things that have either been done recently...or coming in a future version of krita 1. Touch painting (some people don't have tablets that have proper stylus with pressure and such), so this allows them to use it. 2. There is a touch strip that is being worked on that has a panel of options specifically for tablet users 3. Krita 3.3 will have WinInk support, so that will help it work better on Surface Pro devices (like the right-click popup palette working) 4. We have made some changes to the pop-up palette so it is easier to rotate the canvas, get into and out of canvas-only mode 5. The tools in the toolbox have a customizable icon size to make them bigger to edit 6. We are trying to modify and improve our High-DPI settings to make text and the UI larger There is a lot more we can do, but we are definitely not forgetting about it. The biggest challenge is having a program that can do a ton of stuff like Krita, then trying to simplify the UI without deleting a lot of the features. People also love their working space, so filling more of the screen with UI is generally not the best way. I looked through the clip studio screenshots and they have a few neat ideas. I do like the "how are you using this" type of drop-down https://static1.squarespace.com/static/ ... rmat=1000w We do have workspaces with configurations, but they don't modify things like font sizes, icon sizes, or other GUI elements. That might be something we could do in the future to help the UI work better depending on the device. |

Touch rotate is something we tried to implement in 2014, but it really interfered with touch zoom/pan, and we didn't manage to make it work properly. We might revisit it, but I'm rather hoping someone else will provide a patch...

Hi -
Just to let you know that our customers who use Krita would appreciate touch rotate support. I've been testing with Krita x64, version 4.1.7. Thanks for your great work! Best regards, Robert Cohn Wacom Technology |
