How to enable us to translate https://userbase.kde.org/Krita/Manual?
According to https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Help:Extension:Translate/Page_translation_example, translation administrator can unlock the pages for translators. Could someone who is a translation administrator enable us to translate?

You should start here: https://userbase.kde.org/Translate_a_Page -- that's the page that describes the workflow specifically for Userbase translators.

Hey tokiedian, we're going to move the manual to a new url, once Scott has figured out how to set up translation for that, we'll immediately contact you and guruguru with how to set up translation :)

Well, I disagree to move the manual from KDE userbase wiki, because it has a very cool multilingual function. In addition, I've found the way to make pages localizable, which is to add page names on https://userbase.kde.org/ReadyForTranslation. I've already requested to make most of the pages localizable on https://userbase.kde.org/ReadyForTranslation, so please wait for a moment...

I myself think Krita having its own document site is better because Krita team would have more control in the process.
(I do hope the migration would be mostly automatic and painless, though.)

edit: Probably we'd need https://www.mediawiki.org/wiki/Extension:Translate for the new site. This seems to be the extension kde userbase is using.

Having a own document site means that Krita team pays cost for it by itself. I don't think we can afford to found and maintain the own wiki site of good quality as the current KDE userbase wiki, especially in multilingual support. We should focus our resource on development, not on maintenance of the manual site.

No, don't worry about that. The hosting is provided by KDE, as we are a part of the KDE community. The difference here is that we'll, like guruguru points out, have full control over the wiki and can do things like add a krita.org like look to it, make things more easily searchable(something not possible with userbase due to it's huge size), and even go into the direction of generating offline manuals. Scott Petrovic is installing the translation extension and will be making it prettier coming week. I already ported over the FAQ and I'll try to get a link to both of you as soon as possible.

I've logged in the new wiki with KDE identity. Do you copy pages and their structure completely of the wiki from https://userbase.kde.org/Krita/Manual? Will you raze https://userbase.kde.org/Krita/Manual and https://userbase.kde.org/Krita to the ground when you finish migration?

There will be some pages fully copied, but others need to be split up or reorganised. We'll be working on that coming weeks.

No, we'll be trying to find the best way to get people from old links sent to the new wiki. This might be via deletion, or info boxes.

Also, I don't know if you are trying to be funny, but I am honestly not pleased with the aggressive tone you're taking. The manual is 80% my work, and I want the best possible future for it, including translations. I am not sure what I did to you to receive such aggressive wording.

I'm not sure I understand what problems you're having with this. Or what your worries or fears are.

As a team, we all agreed that it would be better for the manual to be much more closely linked to the krita website presence. It's much more logical. As Krita maintainer I'm all for the migration, and of course the manual will no longer be available on userbase when it's available on docs.krita.org.

Personally, I trust Therahedwig and Scotty to do a great job here, just like Thera and Raghukamath already did a great job creating the existing manual.

Well... Migration of the manual means that my request to make most of pages in userbase.kde.org/Krita/Manual localizable last night has ended in a complete waste of labor. However, I approve of decision of Krita team since new manual site seems to have no trouble about localization. (The reason why I post this topic is that I was asked for permission to found a unofficial Krita wiki in Japanese. )

There are a few benefits of moving the userbase Krita documentation. The new documentation site is going to be much more than just a manual. It will include tutorials, the FAQ page, and other information related to digital art. It is more of a knowledge base and a learning hub for artists.

The navigation is also going to be different so it is easier to move around. The navigation will be more static and on the left so it is easier to move around. The look and feel will be just like krita.org to look more consistent. Easier searching as Wolthera pointed out across only Krita related topics.

Localisation is a big priority with this new site. I am in contact with KDE (mostly Ben Cooksley) about getting that set up. It is a bit more work than other features, so I want a bit of guidance.

Once the localisation is set up, we can think about how we want to migrate and organize the content. There is some outdated content currently, so we want to try to make sure it is as current as possible.

I will probably start playing around with the design a bit while I am waiting for the localisation to get set up.

Hmm... The idea to make the site to be much more than just a manual looks interesting. I think it would be interesting to create an area where everyone could post self-made independent tutorials, tips, lectures or makings of artworks casually as he wish, which is slightly difficult in the user forum. (However we should separate the user-made tutorial area from the official comprehensive manual definitely) If there are good posts in the user-made tutorial area, we could integrate them into the official comprehensive manual. I think the idea is suitable for our open source project.
