Long time Photoshop user here since version 4.0. I came across Krita last month and I am really thankful for this program.
Currently testing Krita 3.0 Beta on Windows 7 32 bit and it's much better than v.2.9 for me. I have gotten kind of tired being Photoshop's slave. I mean the basic tools have not been updated since the late 90s, coloring artwork is a nightmare etc. But my main issue with Photoshop is that despite all the new versions one still has to trace an object like it's 2002. Either making a path with the pen tool (very time consuming) or draw a mask/quickmask with the brush tool and then fill out large areas with the polygon lasso tool. Not anymore with Krita. The Polygon Tool (with the fill option enabled) is a big time saver for me. Now I can make my masks in half the time that it would take me in Photoshop. Now if the Polygon Tool also had a preview like Krita's Line Tool that would be really amazing. Still that's not a deal breaker for me since I can easily correct mistakes with my Wacom Pen. Other than that, the new layers palette in 3.0 Beta is really snappy, much better than v.2.9. Also G'Mic works great (it was broken for me in 2.9) And of course the paint engine, color picker tools, multibrush tool, clone/healing brush, etc. are all amazing I could go on and on. I know Krita is advertised as mainly a painting application but it has capabilities that Photoshop does not when it comes to image editing. As for the missing features the only one I really miss is Replace color. Thank you so much for Krita! Keep up the great work! |

Hello 1drawingperday,
> As for the missing features the only one I really miss is Replace color. I am neither a Photoshop nor a Krita power user..... Just out of curiosity, since I don't know Photoshop well enough, I have googled a bit until I have found a tutorial to "replace color" [1]. With Krita I have applied the G'MIC filter "Select-replace-color" and noticed that with this filter it is already possible to get the same result as shown in the Photoshop tutorial. In short, with the abovementioned G'MIC filter: - I have saved the same image, available in the tutorial web-page, as jpeg; - I have selected (through pick-screen-color) the yellow color; - I have replaced it with a blue color : It suffices to modifly the "tolerance" slider to fine-tune the end result. Hi Silvio! Just tested the G'MIC Select-replace-color filter and it doesn't really hold a candle to Photoshop's Replace Color. It just outputs a flat color that covers the existing image. I guess it's fine for block colored artwork but I'm afraid that it's unsuitable for quickly replacing colors in photographs. Also the user interface is not really helpful since there are no color sliders and one must either enter a specific value or pick a screen color for the replaced output. On a more positive note there is a way to achieve this in Krita in a slower way. 1. Make a mask of the color area that needs its values changed And then 2. New filter layer (with the mask from step 1) Adjust Colors and play with the values until the desired result OR 3. Fill mask with the desired color in a new layer, change the blending mode to Color and then play with opacity until the desired result is reached. |

thanks for letting us know Krita 3.0 is going well. We are still trying to fix bugs, so it is nice to know people are finding it fairly stable already.
The closest thing I have found to Replace Color is to first use the "Similar Color Selection" tool on the toolbox. Once you have the selection you can use the fill tool to swap those areas out with colors. Once you have the selection, you could also use the HSV adjustments if you need faster visual feedback. |

Actually since Krita 3.0. Beta came out I have uninstalled 2.9. It's that good! Also thanks for the tip! |
