Issues with opening jpgs, pngs etc

Fri Jun 10, 2016 5:57 pm
Hi all,
I'm having problems both with Krita 3 and Krita 2.9.11 unders Windows 7, on my Aspire 5742 laptop computer.

In Krita 2.9.11, I'm unable to open any existing images at all (ie jpg, png). I get a message saying "Unknown error code -2 Please send a full bug report at http://bugs.kde.org. (I haven't yet sent a report, more on that further down.)

I decided to try out Krita 3. In Krita 3, I *am* able to open existing images. I am able to change them and save them. However, I'm unable to 'close' them. When I try to close them, the program crashes.

In both cases, I *am* able to create new images and save them, and close them, with no problems. I do not have 2.9.11 and 3.0 installed at the same time.

The only thing I can think of that is different to my previous laptop computer setup is having installed software and drivers for my new Intuos Art graphics tablet. Additionally, I am running Krita 2.9.11 with no problem, in Windows 7, on my old and cranky desktop computer. I use a Wacom Bamboo graphics tablet with that. I had run Krita 2.9.11 successfully for a few weeks, and been so happy with it (using an old Graphire tablet). That is why I haven't yet sent a bug report.

Krita is a gorgeous program! I have Painter IX, and I guess I could use that in lieu of Krita, but I am really happy with many of Krita's features not available in Painter IX.

I seem to be thinking that problem might be with the different graphics tablets, but I only include that information because it's all that's different. I had to re-install Windows 7 recently, after formatting the hdd, because I had picked up a pernicious virus that had no work-around. The Graphire tablet no longer worked, so I bought the Intuos tablet, re-installed Krita and Bob's yer uncle. The fun began...

Any help would be appreciated.

You are saying a lot of different things in that message, so it is going to be very difficult to answer. This doesn't sound like a tablet issue.

To get started, the first thing I would do is un-install Krita 2.9 if it isn't already. You could also delete your kritarc file. Kritarc is a configuration file that saves a lot of settings. If this is corrupt or in a bad state, Krita can have problems. Here are instructions to find that... https://docs.krita.org/KritaFAQ#Where_a ... _stored.3F

once that is gone, go to the site and download the newest version of Krita 3.0 (on the download page).

Try to open and close files with using your mouse. What works and what doesn't?

Thanks for your reply (I hope I'm replying properly to your reply).
I had already uninstalled Krita 2.9. I cleaned it out of the registry and deleted the Krita folder that was left behind after uninstalling, found in the Windows Users folder.

I installed Krita 3 again. I created a new image. Looks like I misspoke in my original post. I'm also not able to 'close' new images that I've created. Krita simply crashes.
