Feature request - export selection

Fri Jun 24, 2016 8:45 am
Hi there,

I miss a feature, witch is essential for my game-development workflow.

It would be great if you would have the option to export the contents of a selection... say as png for example.

Why?
Because I like to set up menus and UI in a single file to see all the things fitting together and to be able to tweak some things right away. But after it is finished I have to save all the elements as single picture files.
I know, this can be done with crop -> export -> undo but with the number of elements the amount of annoyance rises exponentially :).

Please think about it. It would at least make me quite happy and maybe some of the other users too.

Well, I get why it could be useful -- and not too hard to code -- but what I am not sure about is why those components aren't on separate layers so export layer can do the work?

My main reservation is that we've already got a bunch of export/save/save as thingies all over the place, and it's getting confusing.

I would add an extra option to export only "pixel bounds" within the selection, so, for instance:
Image
In this context we could be "imprecise" with the selection, yet all button variations would be exported with the same size.
Of course, seems like a superfluous option for a few buttons, but imagine having 100 buttons, and having to perfectly select each one before exporting...

I think working with separate layers and using the layer selection tool (R) would be the ideal way to go for this kind of work indeed, yet "export layer" needs a couple more options to make a useful and fast workflow (again, thinking in a large quantity of layers here):

- Export all selected layers
- Only layer/pixel bounds
