Do you get money from your commercial Krita software not the free one the commercial one.

All Krita versions are free software under the GPL. Krita on Steam costs money, but that's just for the binaries and the convenience of gettings updates: you can compile it for yourself if you want to.

Then why do you volunteer to make something you don't make money from? |

Different people have different reasons, here are some of them:

Well volunteering is always free (anywhere) otherwise wouldn't be volunteering but it doesn't mean that there is no money involved, it cost a lot to keep an organization running and more if a product is the main goal. For more information about this (regarding Krita's founding) you can read https://krita.org/en/about/krita-foundation/ and you can search about Free and Open Source software to get an Idea of the workflow behind the creation of this type of software. This is nothing like commercial products, thus in your original question, Krita doesn't has a "commercial" version, but you can donate trough many ways including the Steam version to support it, only the ways mentioned on the Krita website are the only genuine forms of support, nobody anywhere else should ask you for money to get Krita And for the record boudewijn is Krita's big boss, he does much more than volunteering
Self educated by a very bad teacher!

As said, different people have different reasons to contribute.
In my case, I've contributed to documentation and provided GUI ideas, for the following reasons: - It's fun. Some people think hard mode on games is fun. Some people like to post every hour on Facebook. And for some people, their idea of fun is messing with algorithms to get a 20% increase in performance (which I know for a fact is the case for several of the Krita devs...), or coming up with new feature ideas. - It gives a sense of accomplishment. Sure, I could spend my time aiming for a new high score in a game, but for less effort, I can potentially get a GUI idea to be used by tens of thousands of people in one of the best drawing programs out there. I get to feel this awesome for free! You should try it sometimes. |
