Hello everybody, hope you've all had a wonderful Christmas.
I'm thinking about changing the "Add paint layer" button in the layers docker to make it smarter. For now, it always inserts a paint layer. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=385050 This suggestion makes me think maybe I can make it a smarter button. Other than letting it insert a group layer when multiple layers are selected, maybe we can let it insert a clipping layer when a clipping layer is selected, or add a vector layer when the active layer is a vector layer. I don't use vector layers a lot, and I've already been told that the last idea might be dangerous, but still, I want to hear more suggestions on that. Also, if this is done, it'll be an action a user can map shortcuts to. I'm thinking about calling it "Smart add layer". However, this will have some side effects. Firstly, the button's function will become kind of ambiguous and might cause unexpected results. A whole new wiki page needs to be established and maintained because the "Smart add layer" function is a completely new thing. Therefore, I want to have more discussions on if I should implement it, and how I should implement it. |
