Hi. i think im not the only one who thinks that krita need a major improvement on the timeline for animators.
a toolbar that has the most basic tools: add/delete exposure copy/paste drawings in different frames some "loop" "ping pong" "repeat" options would be great and the most important of all: add/delete exposure to several layers (this is what i mean: https://imgur.com/a/EVy6EUV) we need more flexibility to navigate and move the keys on all the layers in the timeline in order to work more fluid hope this is useful |

(I'm numbering my answer so it's easier to reply to)
1) add/delete exposure is possible: select one or several frames (exposures or keyframes), then right click on one of them and choose "Remove Frame and Pull" 2) copy/paste drawings in different frames too: select one or several frames, then right click on one of them, and choose "Copy to Clipboard" or "Cut to Clipboard", then go to where you want them and right click > "Paste from keyboard". This was in case you wanted to add them to the existing drawing on this frame; if you wanted to completely replace the existing drawing, you can empty the goal frame before, or you can click-and-drag (to cut-paste) or click-and-drag with ctrl pushed (to copy-paste). In case you have selected several frames, the goal frame will be where the first copied frame goes. 3) "loop", "ping-pong" and "repeat". Indeed, they don't exist in krita, afaik. Tell me if I understood wrong, but those would be sort of continuation modes: for now, the frames after the last frame of a layer show a copy of the last frame. So if my layer is: "1, 2, 3, 4", then it shows "1, 2, 3, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, 4, ..." "repeat" would be how it already works "loop" would be showing the whole animation (for this layer) again, not just the last frame: "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, ..." "ping-pong" would be like loop, but playing once in reverse, once normal: "1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, 3, 2, 1, 2, 3, 4, ..." It has been asked before, but it doesn't seem to be a priority for now; maybe the people who asked failed to explain how useful it would be, you're welcome to do it here (or maybe people are working on it and I don't know). 4) add/delete exposure to several layers can be done (if I understood you right): on your example image: left click on frame 15 layer 7, hold shift and left click on frame 25 layer 7; hold ctrl and left click on frame 15 layer 2, hold shift and left click on frame 25 layer 2, then right click on one of the selected frames, and "Remove Frame and Pull" 5) For those for which I said it could already be done, is it that you didn't know (in which case maybe the documentation needs to be updated or made more non-beginner-friendly), or is it that you knew but wish for a button for those actions? 6) also, out of curiosity: which animation software(s) are you used to? |

let me reply: 1) i know this option, im saying it would be nice to have a toolbar with those shortcuts 2) the fact that you have to "create blank frame" its annoyng. and if you want to copy/paste more than one layer, it only works with keyframes and not with exposures 3) actually the way already works should be "hold" 1,2,3,4 HOLD: 4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4,4.... repeat: 1,2,3,4 REPEAT: 1,2,3,4,1,2,3,4.... ping pong: 1,2,3,4 PING PONG: 1,2,3,4,3,2,1,2,3,4,3,2,1... random: 1,2,3,4 RANDOM: 1,4,3,2,4,1,3,2,4,3,4... in fact, it would be even better if you can select how many draws you want to be affected. example: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 but i want to repeat the last 3: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 REPEAT_last3: 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9,7,8,9,7,8,9,7,8,9.... 4) you cant select frames and move unless you cross the selection. i mean, if i select 10 frames and want to move those only 3 frames ahead i cant. when i say "add/delete exposure to several layers" i mean to extend everything. like in toon boom, you simply select the layers in the timeline and pres "+" or "-" to extend everything on front 5) like in "1)" it would be nice to have a toolbar with those actions. would be nice to can see the thumbnails on the timeline too 6) depends on the proyect, i work with toon boom harmony, animate, krita, tvpaint, pixel edit, photoshop, even after effects. |

There's an animation cycle thing in development, but I have no idea how long it will take until it is usable.
