Krita's awkward text tool

Thu Sep 12, 2019 11:39 pm
For the most part, Krita beats GIMP as a "modern" piece of software, with its sleeker interface and faster rendering. But coming from GIMP, where you can use the text tool to drag a text box precisely where you want text to go, it's a bit odd when I drag my cursor in Krita only to be assaulted by a splatter of Lorem Ipsum vaguely where I clicked. I always have to move the layer after having replaced the default text, whereas in GIMP I could know exactly where the boundaries of the text would be.
It's kind of weird that the tool apparently lets you drag a box with no apparent purpose or relation to the text that ends up vandalizing your canvas. Heck, the default text might actually be useful for previewing the look and placement of the text box if you actually had control over the placement of the text box.
