Feature Request: Lasso Fill

Tue Apr 14, 2020 6:12 pm
I've looked all over Krita for this tool, and cannot seem to find it IF it's even there. I come from Clip Studio Paint which has the Lasso Fill tool as seen in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HSAhbX6Ubgw. It has made a huge improvement to my digital drawing workflow, but I'm not able to upgrade my license to make full use of CSP's animation functions. So I'm trying to learn Krita so I can practice 2D animation, but the lack of a Lasso Fill feels like drawback.

So I would like to request this feature.

also... how difficult would it be for me to learn enough coding to try my hand at making an extension for this?

If you type 'fill' into the search box at the bottom of the Brush Presets docker, you'll see the 'Shapes Fill' brush. This will fill an outline that you draw with it.
For a complicated outline it can look/feel strange at first but it does work. Also, for an initial straight line, you don't get visual feedback until you deviate from the line.
I'd say it's not as 'friendly/comfortable' as drawing an outline with a normal brush and then filling that outline but you can try it to see if it's useful for you.

EDIT: P.S. You'll probably get a larger audience for feedback and discussion if you go here: https://krita-artists.org/
It's an active place with lots of development discussion.

Oh my, Thanks a bunch. Is there any way to make the shape transparent/invisible whilst drawing? having it fill immediately is very distracting, haha.

oh, maybe not, lol. well thank you for pointing that out! It'll take a bit of getting used to.

If you're drawing on a separate layer, you can turn down the opacity on the layer while you draw, and then turn it back up when you're done.
