Good day! First of all, thanks to all developers of such a wonderful program. I love Krita!
Photoshop always felt slow, heavy and inconvenient in many details, imho, Krita is much better. But Krita lacks one simple feature: duplicate selected (in the same layer). Consider a workflow for painting tiles. You duplicate tiles a lot (in the same layer), adding variations to them. Currently user has to do many steps:
2.) select area 3 and 4.) copy/paste selected (currently Krita pastes only to a new layer). [Two clicks: Ctrl+C / Ctrl+V or one click: Ctrl+Alt+J] 5.) T or Ctrl+T - activate tool "move" or "transform" (happens automatically by Krita settings: "activate transform tool after pasting"] 6.) drag selection to new position 7.) Ctrl+E - merge with previous layer So, 5-7 actions required. In Photoshop user can just ctrl-alt-click on any area (island of pixels) (without even selecting it) - and drag it. Thanks in advance! Kind regards, L |

I want to clarify the proposal. New function "Duplicate selected" can work like this:
* select pixels. * press button. * a copy of selected, ready to move or transform, occurs in the same layer. Do developers read this forum and user feedback? Thanks in advance! |

We do... But sometimes we're to busy to answer every post here and on the forum. Especially when it comes to feature requests, of which we've already hundreds, more than we would ever be able to implement. These days, though https://krita-artists.org is more active than the forum, and it's a place where many artists hang out and discuss ideas. But... It's so busy that it is _also_ impossible to keep up with for us.
Here's our general description of how features are developed: https://docs.krita.org/en/untranslatabl ... tures.html . In this case, it would be a bit of a project; adding something like this to the move tool is one possibility, making it a generic action that is also available in all selection tools would be harder, but in any case it needs thinking. We never (except for the layer styles feature, and we really regret that one!) copy something 1:1 from another application, not even from photoshop. |

Thanks for the answer. Everything in Krita is made with fresh touch, I appreciate it.
Hope that such a basic function ("duplicate selected" or simply - paste in the same layer) will be implemented. |
