2.1 Release Candidate Tagged!

Sun Oct 25, 2009 3:05 pm
Hi all!

The release candidate for Krita 2.1 has been tagged this weekend by Cyrille. You will have to wait for the release announcement to the changes -- but we fixed a lot of bugs! Thanks go out to all our ace beta testers/bug reporters!

The discussion about what 2.2 will be is heating up on the KImageShop mailing list (did I ever tell y'all about the history of Krita's names? I will be resurrecting our faq on the new website, and that will contain all the details).

We're going for a user-focussed plan here, making it possible to implement the first of Enkithan's use cases -- the comic book artist. And there will be some publicity soon, because we hope to be able to have Lukas working full-time next year on making Krita acceptable to the artists in blender projection. That will take money, though, so we need to create a good plan first.

But: if you want to participate in the discussions on 2.2, reply here or join the KImageShop mailing list!

We want to co-operate with Blender people. E.g. in the project Durian they use GIMP+MyPaint, but Krita is not usable for them at the moment. The aim of the project is to make Krita more usable in professional environment too. I hope you will support us, our beloved community ;)

Man I'd love to get even a couple of demo images for Krita by David Revoy (Durian's concept artist). He's a really skilled painter.

It's worth remembering that the *only* piece of software that they're tied to using is (obviously) Blender. Outside of that they've stated that they're happy to use any open source software. Yes, David used Gimp and MyPaint in past, but what artist doesn't enjoy a new medium if its easy to learn and use? :)

I still have this dream that we're going to get some of the rough edges (crashes & performance) ironed out and then approach a whole stack of excellent artists to see if we can interest a bunch of them in just trying Krita long enough to share even a single test image. From there we get some great gallery images, credibility to convince other artists to try us out and who knows, maybe even snag a spot in some of the pro's toolboxes. We could even offer a free copy of the software to say thanks! ;)

For 2.2, we are formulating an plan of action that actually means "make Krita usable for the next blender project". I am going to add the plan to our wiki today.

By "next" we're talking Durian+1? (Mango, if I'm not mistaken...) or are we talking Durian itself?

Durian is already running and this won't be finished in time, so it's for Durian+1
