hi,
i'm really just new at Krita, but i'd like to learn working with it, initially because it supports CMYK (contrary to GIMP). Conversion of color spaces in Krita is very easy, but it doesn't let me export transparency. Is this at all possible and if so, can anyone point to me how? thk you very much |

I'm not sure what you want to exactly: do you want to separate a cmyka image into five separate images? If so, choose Image/Separate Image and choose the "Create separate separation from the alpha channel" in "Alpha Options". Then you can save each separation layer separately using "save layer as image".

basically what i want is this:
up till now i have been editing images in GIMP, but these images have a transparent background (it's actually a irregular sized logo that has to be pasted against a colored background). So i save these images as .png in GIMP and the transparency is exported with it. But I can't find the way to properly export it as CMYK with that same transparency involved. Gimp deals with these files as RGB standardly, and even with the separate+ plugin i have installed (to separate into CMYK layers) i don't know how to export or save as CMYK. It just remains in RGB. That's why i'm trying Krita, because i think it's much easier as it already supports CMYK. The thing is, when i import the .png file (with transparency) i made in Gimp, it imports it correctly (with transparency) but then i need to convert and export it to CMYK (still with transparency). Conversion works but exporting doesn't because of the transparency i assume. I tried to do what you are advising me, but i can't seem to figure that out. First i convert to CMYK, then i separate the image with a separate separation for the alpha-channel, but what i've got then is my image in CMYK (with the 4 layers included into 1), a gray-layer and the alpha-layer. I don't understand how i can get to a composite CMYK-file from there on. I don't see the option to "save layer as..." either. I guess i'm just missing the concept of building up a CMYK file with transparency from separate layers. thk you for the help. If you have a good link where i can learn this that would be very helpful too. |

Hm... I think the only file format that supports cmyk is tiff -- have you tried saving as tiff instead of png?

it seems png doesn't support cmyk, i didn't know that. tiff or jpg do. thanks fot that!
i also managed to separate all 5 layers properly as you mentioned, and i saved them as a separate jpg-file in the same folder. But what do i do with them then? I don't understand why i need to do this in order to create the same file but with transparency included. never knew colour management could be this complex. |

Sorry, I was very unclear. For some processes, it is useful to have all channels in separate images. But I think now that this isn't what you want -- if you want to have a cmyk file with transparency, just save your image as tiff and don't bother with the separations.
