Hi Krita folks,
I recently saw a short documentary (Y.T.) about Microsoft GUSTAV which was designed to deliver a real world painting experience. Mixing brushes and colors natively was just ONE Aspect for them. Hopefully no patent-war is existent otherwise the new "mix colours" functionality within Krita is to be disappearing faster than you can expect it. Even Corel could have such patents... Besides, after a quick board seach nothing else found, I am hoping that I am not SPAMMING the board with this topic. Yours sincerely, AndreasP |

Ah, Bill Baxter is still going strong, I see. He has published a number of papers on this topic, as well as demo videos and a Phd theses (http://www.billbaxter.com). His work is very interesting, but our natural color mixing is quite different from his as far as maths and methods go, so I think we're quite safe.
Corel does indeed have a patent about mixing colors in a palette using additive color models, but that's again not what we have. More generally speaking, I am sure Krita violates hundreds of patents all over the world: it's impossible to write a graphics app without doing so. |
