The current trunk version of Krita has a minimum brush diameter of 0.00, which is obviously not useful.
I'm not completely sure if Shift + Left-Right is linked to the "Diameter: " widget in the Autobrush tab in the configuration popup for paintops, but let's assume it is!. Considering that, what do you think is the most useful minimum diameter for a brush?. Currently if you shrink your brush too much it will disappear (diameter 0.00). I thought of simply changing the minimum diameter to 1.00 but I prefer to have some backing before making an usability change like that. Is there any artist having use for brushes whose diameter lies below 1.00 but (of course) above 0.00? Your feedback is important and appreciated. Thank you. |

I think the interval 0.01 - 1.00 is still useful when you do some pixel work.

I have to agree with Lukas here all non-zero sizes have a use.

I'd say 0-1 has *a* use... but I'm really not sure I'd ever use it myself...

I do use that kind of settings, very useful for precise line-art details for example. Of course 0.01 will rarely be used, but as said verbalshadow any non-zero size can be useful.

How about a minimum ratio of 0.2?
Anything below seems impossibly tiny compared to the minimum amount of image that can be drawn (1 px). The idea is that when the Shift + Left slider is moved all the way to the left, shrinking the brush to the minimum, something still usable is left. I think that should help with speed painting. After some testing it could be moved slightly up or slightly down to accommodate something that fits everyone's need better. Ideas? |

i'm ok with the low end being 0.1px, though as soon as it is coded I will probably find need for smaller

After some more tests I can say I probably won't use 0.x size setting in Krita. I was used to brush engines similar to the ink tool in Gimp, where very low values (even 0) still trace a line. Here in Krita, with settings lower than 1 the line is broken, so it becomes almost useless.
So would it be possible to limit the Shift-drag resize to 1.0, and maybe let the user get lower (to 0.1 or 0.2) only manually in the settings tab ? |

I don't know how to do it, but it should be possible. |

That sounds like a bug. Maybe if you would report it with actuall result and expected result, it might get fixed some day. These bugs are quite hard to fix.

It's not directly a bug. It's more the way the pixels are set. When the diameter is 1.0, then you can click on a pixel and it will be colored. With a diameter small than that that needs to be hit to color the pixel becomes smaller. That leads to gaps between the pixels, as you don't always hit near the center of the pixel.
The ink tool in Gimp draws an anti-aliased one pixel line with reduced opacity. |
