It seems obvious that Krita's brush system is far superior to Gimp's, but what about MyPaint? How do the two brush systems Krita vs MyPaint compare, and in what ways do the Krita devs see room for improvement and/or compatibility (for example the ability to import MyPaint brushes and use them correctly)?

I've been working for quite some time now on integrating MyPaint's brush engine in Krita. In Krita brush systems are plugins, so that's quite feasible. I just never had time to really finish it.

It's one of my planned features to finish it for 2.4.

Is this related to the "Lindenmayer brush system", and what exactly is that?

Adam plans to work on that brush engine. AFAIR the idea was inspired by fractals http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/L-system

So I think you will be able to paint fractals :)
