Hi,
Having the new splash screen feature since a week makes me want to dive into study how to have a cool one for Krita. Here are my proposal. For other, feel free to use this thread to propose yours. Template png with alpha : http://david.revoy.free.fr/forums/krita ... -alpha.png Some exemple of how it looks with community artwork : Note 1: The picture from Alexey and Ico-Dy normaly have a CC-By-Sa-Nc license that restrict me to publish 'cropped' or close-up version as it can be considered as a 'derivative work' from their original publishing ; but I think they will accept if it's to promote mainly there artworks without doing a bad-looking derivative and for a cool feature... On asking from them, I can remove the pictures. Note 2: The Krita brush icon+splatter I created (I have it in SVG, and I use it as an icon too ) is based on a mix from Sebastian Kraft Mypaint brush icon (GPL) and Faenza's Matthieu James splat icons (GPL too ). Font 'prisoner sf' is a free public license fonts ( on every website of font , distribued without license ). |

It's ok for me.
"I give you authorization to modify in any manner you like the following works in order to create the Krita' splashscreens and to advertise Krita as well:" - Girl in Blossom - Dead Man Walking - Mother Nature Enrico Guarnieri "Ico-dY". |

Cool thanks Ico-dY !
Btw, I saw with Animtim ( a splash with his artwork would be nice too, I forgot to propose one ) that the CC-By-Nc-Sa was not making problem for cropping and zooming. So, I did a mistake. ( it's ND for Non Derivative who restrict this ). Btw, on IRC I got the feedback the 'NC' (Non-commercial) attribute could be a problem as the software can be on a CD, or shipped on a distrib disk , etc... |

I think a better tagline would be:
"for sketching and painting" Or maybe... "paint your world" |

I could give the commercial permission for the splash-screens derived from my works... Or are you speaking about the full kra files? |

Btw. shouldn't it be "KDE application" instead of "KDE program". Program sounds weird.
Edit: And... where did you plan to put the splash screen? Unlike GIMP, Krita usually opens up instantly. So there is no loading sequence where it could be shown.

The splash is shown immediately from the main() function and hidden as soon as the image is loaded or the template dialog shown. It's there, but very briefly . Krita starts so quickly because all the resource loading is done in the background.

Overall, a nice first draft (would be even nicer if the svg was posted! ) and some really nice looking pieces of art. Some feedback:
Anyway, thanks for getting the discussion on this started with an actual mockup. Looking at the number of posts above, it really seems to have worked! PS Personally I'd love to see a tagline of "Krita: Creative freedom." Alternatively "Krita: Digital painting. Sketching. Freedom." |

Or... "Paint freely" I think it'd make a great complement to Inkscape's "Draw freely" tagline. Someone using both applications would notice the parallel eventually =) |

Thank you, David, for your interest to my humble artwork.
I give authorization for you and all Krita developers, to modify and use my work "Woman Face" for any purposes related to the development and promotion of Krita, including commercial use within the above-mentioned tasks. |

"Girl in Blossom" is "BY-SA" only. It can be freely used, modified and distributed for commercial or non-commercial purposes... ...And now I've changed the "Dead Man Walking"'s license into "CC-BY-SA" too! Please, update the license in the Krita' showcase! About "Mother Nature" that isn't possible, sorry... |

A vote for "Paint Freely" and maybe drop the whole KDE part...

It sounds good to me. |

I love this idea for the splash screen , the only thing that I don't like to much is the glow light of the krita icon.
PS: +1 for "Krita: Creative freedom" |
