Re: Krita for Windows? When?

I finally got around to reporting the dynamic movements tool settings to bugs.kde.org. After spending some more time fine tuning I found that the settings providing the best balance between smoothness and accuracy are Mass: 0.01 and Drag: 0.98.

I also reported the Tiff error message bug. I haven't reported the crash-on-save and corrupted file bugs yet though, as they seem a bit random.

Thanks! I got a bit caught up in work deadlines this week, but I'll try and do some serious bug triaging and maybe even fixing soon.

Buglist:1. More confirmation on the weighted smoothing bug. I also don't notice a change at all when using smoothing period.

2. Cursor hangs when you stop drawing suddenly and go to select a different tool or brush. (or anything in the panes area) and refuses to go in unti you tap the brush on the canvas, then resumes working normally.

3. paint with brushes using dynamic movements is also doing the dotting-but-other-wise-not-working issue.

4. Calligraphy tool does not show lines until mouse release/pen is lifted. Not sure that it's supposed to do that? Krita also froze/crashed after a few minutes of playing with it.
*edit: ....so I looked at task manager while trying to get krita to close and it was running somewhere around 2.400k. Yeaaah that's scary right there. Couldn't get a screenshot because my pc pretty much tried to eat itself after that and I had to restart to return normal functioning. I think I'll be staying away from this particular tool until I'm sure it's working properly...

Will report any further bugs I see, I'm obvious new to this... It seems to run pretty smoothly for me on most brushes, as long as I don't go to extreme sizes, then there's slight lag, but nothing too pressing.

questions Question since I am having trouble finding anything confirming or not confirming this one: Are tags supposed to not save when you close? is that for this version only? Because every time I close krita, all my tags are deleted no matter what I do, which is a bit frustrating since there ARE quite a few and I like having the ability to sort things. (my ocd commands me, cough)

I can't tell you how grateful I am to see someone working on windows builds for this after the whole mypaint situation though. I will say-- I think I am liking krita a good deal better in the first place.

edited: Also, running krita on Windows 7 home premium 64bit with AMD A6-4400M Processer + Radeon HD 7520.

Tags are supposed to be saved on exit and it works on Linux. There might be a bug in the WIndows version.

Tags do work on latest 64bit build on Windows. Few days ago I added latest Davids presets and I tagged them accordingly for faster use. Tags were saved with no problem. The only thing I can think of would be possibility for Krita to remember what preset is default.

So it IS a bug, but it's not happening to everyone. I've tried restarting, saving profiles, making multiple tag sets and making sure brushes are in them before closing, just generally saving-- pretty much everything I could think of to make it work, and nothing. Every time it resets and I end up with absolutely no tags, just the default all-in-one stuff. The ONLY thing left is to uninstall and reinstall and see if that does anything. I'll edit this post with the results in a little while.

& Thank you to you guys for answering so quick. Most forums take days sometimes.

edit: Okay, I have uninstalled and reinstalled about four times now, including twice with Krita's uninstaller. Tags still refuse to save unfortunately.

Also wondering if I should add these to the bug tracker? (well, mainly tags since that is my biggest issue other then the cal pen)

Out of curiosity - how you uninstall WITHOUT using Krita's uninstaller?

Using windows "programs and features" which doesn't apparently completely uninstall it. (I have the share folder and everything in it left over every time I use that rather than going to start menu > programs > krita > tools > uninstall. Since that actually seems to get rid of the folder, I'm guessing they aren't the same.

Since my Linux disk died two days ago that's a good excuse to ask - any news about new windows build? Not that last one is unusable or something, just asking. Shaving some of those little bugs or something..

Sorry, I've been really busy with work -- two projects in fact, one a version of Krita for windows8 that switches between desktop and sketch mode if the laptop switches. That's not quite done yet -- but the project didn't leave time for bug fixes. And the other project was porting Calligra's core libraries and apps to Qt5. I didn't even manage to spend much time porting Krita...

I'm about 90 bugs behind in the bugs mailing list even!

btw. it looks like deleting all Krita config files located in appdata/ roaming etc. fixed weighted smoothing, and ability to paint in brush editor popup. Maybe it will work for you too.

Thanks for the hint man, will test now.

Can you be more specific about what you deleted? I deleted some but it doesnt work. Maybe I missed some files that should be deleted. Appreciate answer.

I have deleted whole catalogs of "krita" and "kde" from appdata but it still doesnt work for me. I guess you are lucky one.

I've uploaded two new windows installers:

http://heap.kogmbh.net/downloads/krita_x86_2.7.8.12.msi
http://heap.kogmbh.net/downloads/krita_x64_2.7.8.12.msi

These contain a bunch of bugfixes -- they are up to date with git master up to yesterday. Also, there's hidden in the krita/bin directory a new app: KritaTabletTester which we can use to check where the problems with tablets are: in Krita or in the Wacom setup.
