Standalone instalation for windows any closer or I shouldnt even asked about it in the next weeks/months? Just a question, no pressure intended.

No, no progress yet. I was already happy to have fixed one or two windows-specific bugs for the next Calligra beta . Developing on Windows remains an enormous drag, partly because it's just unfamiliar to me, partly because of things like the very slow file system which makes compiling take way longer than on Linux. For now, I'm focusing on fixing bugs both on Linux and on Windows, I might find time to do a standalone installer after the release. Or... Someone could try and help me and Stuart out .

Heya, I've downloaded krita a week ago and started to test it. The brush system is awesome, but what I like most are the maaaaaaaaaaaaaaaany modes you can draw in. I never got warm with gimps brushes ('cause I'm a Photoshop user for years and used to it), but after I wanted to use only open source programs as a new years plan I first thought that gimp is the only program with the "color" mode for layers.
But then I found Krita! Thank you so much! Okay... I'm just doodling around now because I just have to check all the things you can do with Krita, but I found some bugs and I don't know if you know them already. I'm using Krita on 2 PC's (home and office, both Windows7 64Bit), I changed the layer property at home - no problem. I tried to change it here (same property: Color HSI) and the layer gets flickering from normal to color HSI, like a strobe light, and after I clicked OK the layers stays normal. And a problem I found here and at home is that sometimes after I changed a brush the brushes aren't working any more. Sometimes they will start working again after I switched the brush back to the other brush and then back to the new one. Sometimes they only start working again if I close Krita. That's annoying. But anyway: This is an awesome program! Thanks for making it <33 Edit: K, after I saved the file and tried it once again to change the layer property it worked. ^^ |

Welcome!
If you haven't already, I recommend checking out the "Krita's hidden secrets" thread which tells you a whole bunch of the features in Krita that aren't immediately obvious when you start. I would have saved me a lot of time. viewtopic.php?f=137&t=85939 |

Oh, I looked there, I've read nearly every post in this forum which wasn't older than a year - and looked the wiki!
Otherwise I would have felt totally lost. The hidden secrets are really cool, I love the palette. Right now I'm testing all the different brushes, I really like the experimental ones. I thought that it could be cool for screentones, drawing them directly where you need them! The only thing I miss right now is the outline, g-pen, easy to edit vector system you have on IllustStudio (a bit like Sai vectors, but butter). Then Krita could really do everything I need ^^ Edit: If I use the gradient as the color source it just uses the first color of the gradient to paint, am I doing something wrong? Do I have to set the range of the gradient on the canvas? And whats the difference between pattern and locked pattern? Wow, this is so complex >_<'' |

Still can't wait for a portable version and maybe we could write a simple script to edit the batch file that will need to be edited with the path? I don't think people see the potential of Windows portable apps, but as a Linux user stuck with Windows at work they are life saving and easy to get people to install.

Yes... Stuart is thinking of making the installer portable (and of splitting the installer so every app in the suite has its own installer as well). But here as in other things: we need hands on deck to make the windows experience really good!

This would be a beautiful thing, indeed! |

No news? I still can't use the lasso tool and then the move tool, it crash.

Sorry, the link was wrong, so everyone was downloading an old installer (beta 6, instead of beta 7 or rc2). That should be fixed pretty soon, we had a new installer already, but it turns out that words was completely broken. We're working on making a fixed installer available.

Oh, Nanique, I missed a question of yours.
To make painting with the gradient work, you have to make sure that you have something like this set: color source: gradient hue: checked and select a sensor, like distance (This gets me every time as well |

Okay, that was the missing Option, thank you!^^

There is now an extremely experimental installer that has just Krita on the KO GmbH website. This is git master -- that's to say, it includes all the current changes and has a number of unstable plugins enabled that were disabled for 2.4. it should install just fine next to the "stable" 2.4 Calligra installation...
But your mileage may vary, and as I said, this is extremely experimental. If you lose work, I'd love to hear from you so I can fix the bug, but I won't feel guilty! http://www.kogmbh.com/download.html (Have fun, it contains the new texture brush option...) |

Hi All, I'm getting this error when I attempt to run krita on Windows 7 x64.
Any ideas? Thanks for reading. |
