Hello, I'm a new Krita 2.4 beta user. I love the new upgrades since the last Krita I tried some time ago. I don't know if this has already been fixed or if it's a user error (on my end), but the experimental brush, (the Alchemy style brush), is very temperamental. What I mean is that when I first opened Krita and began playing with it using my wacom tab, the experimental brush worked as it should, when I opened krita later that same day, the Experimental brush acted as if it was making the stroke (click drag), but the minute I took my stylus off the tablet to draw a new stroke the stroke I just made disappears. When I draw with my mouse all is fine, it makes the stroke like it's suppose to, but when I try with my stylus no stroke shows up unless the line is drawn long and the shape is pulled into a large shape. I'm I doing something wrong? Again, the experimental works when using the mouse, but when I try to draw with the wacom stylus the initial preparatory stroke is seen, but when I lift the pen, the stroke fades away almost instantaneously.
Also, is there a way to prevent deletion of presets in the brush creator/tool options menu? Right now it's almost too easy to delete a preset (click on preset, click again deleted). It would be nice if there was a warning menu that asked "Are you sure you want to delete" or something to spare trigger fingered people like me. And, is there a way to get back accidental deletions? Also, while I like the hold shift and drag option to increase brush size, it would be nice to have a slideble toolbar or menu option to increase or decrease size. It will give the user a more precise option on what his brush size is so they can go back to a favored brush size later, without have to guess at the brush size using the shift option. Lastly, I like that you can choose the color of your canvas, unfortunately (for me anyway), when you erase something on that colored canvas it erases the color as well leaving a checkered "0" pixel hole where you just erased. It would be nice if the color of canvas wasn't erased when you erase a mistake like painter or Mypaint. If it's already like this and I've done something wrong, please forgive me. Take care and thanks to everyone involved for making the coolest new drawing program I've played in awhile. |

Experimental brush is like the name says still experimental. It's still in development and still contains a few bugs.
For the deleting presets. This depends a bit on which beta you use. In one of the earlier versions the trash bin icon filled to much of the preset space. We know that it's a bit tricky and undo functionality is planned. There are two sliders to change the brush size. In the brush setting it's the first slider. As alternative you can can switch one of the sliders in the toolbar to work as size slider (Click on the arrow next to the slider and choose size). That is eraser thing is a bit unfortunate. Maybe we can do something about that. |

Thanks for the response. I'm looking forward to some of the bugs to be ironed out. In the meanwhile I'll keep working with it. This program has the potential to be something really big on the digital painting front and I would like to help see this thing come to the masses of artist looking for the next awesome painting software. I can't code, but I can find bugs and hopefully new ways of making the workflow better. I like the FOSS and free software philosopy on things.
Check out my artwork at http://www.duanewayne.blogspot.com or http://artmessiah.deviantart.com/gallery almost everything on those sites are digital and done in Photoshop, Painter, or Mypaint. I want have things made in Krita on there as well. Thanks again, and take care |

Some beautiful work there! You might want to check out the Krita group on DeviantArt seeing as you're over there, too. Either way, welcome! Looking forward to seeing something in the gallery!

About the eraser problem -- the thing is, Krita doesn't have a canvas color. What most people do is create an image with the right background color and then create a new layer immediately for painting on. Then the eraser doesn't erase the background color.

As I understand it, it means that you only erase the alpha channel. Color channels would not be touched.

Yep, I know about this "bug". Actually it is feature, but badly configured by default preset. Problem is that Opacity option is enabled by default and controlled by stylus pressure. When your stylus leaves the tablet, it sends the pressure value to the brush and since it is very low, low opacity (near zero) is the resulting opacity of the brush (that's why you see the stroke with mouse, mouse produce constant pressure 1.0 and that's why you don't see brush with tablet because it's opacity is almost 0 due to last pressure value is used) The solution for you is to disable Opacity (uncheck Use the curve in Opacity) or tweak the curve of the pressure sensor so that you are happy with the final opacity. Maybe we will use the average pressure of the stroke for the resulting opacity in the future.
Daylight is coming...

Thanks for the input and would like to try that, but now every time I go into the brush options menu and touch anything krita freezes my computer. I figured I'd do a fresh re-install of Mint 11 and krita to fix the previous problem (that you just referenced). I noticed the splash screen is different now (with the well rendered face of a man as opposed to the guy with the sword), so I'm assuming I updated and killed something that was working before in the process I'll take the old bug over this new one any day ha, ha.
My system is Linux Mint 64 bit Graphics card is Nvidia Geforce GTX 560 Ti Processor - Intel i7 920 24 GB of Ram. *Edit - never mind. I used my mouse to turn off the opacity option and then tried with my stylus and now everything works - for now. I'm happy. Here's a few screen shots of my quick test sketches. |

Ah, ok, I figured out that the source of my crash (which still happens). It is when I touch the area where I can test my new brush setting and use that test as an icon for my new preset. Everything works fine as far as changing parameters (such as the uncheck option LukasT.dev recommended) until I go to scribble in that area with the square at the top and then everything is frozen. Well, my mouse still moves the cursor but I can't do anything in Krita or even on my desktop. So I'll avoid touching that area until it can be fixed.

Hey , nice to see you around Artmessiah, and cool for your future test because we have almost same hardware / software configuration.
For the bug you found I also confirmed it today on the mailing list. You will certainly enjoy the 'F2' key to auto-save incremental in the days of beta, and also the autosave in preferences. Have fun painting time. |

Hi Deevad, good seeing you here too. I got the same setup as you following your blog about the Linux Mint system for art. I refer it for compiling linux art software - thanks for making things super easy, it really helps me and a lot of artist new to linux. Mint is definitely the best out of the Linux systems in my opinion (and I tried more than a couple including Ubuntu). Not sure about Mint 12 tho - played with it before going back to Mint 11. No worries boudewijn, I'm loving Krita so far and will keep checking for the fixed version.
