Hi,
I am trying to recover some deleted .ora files and cant seem to figure out the file signature needed for Photorec or Scalpel. I have made some .ora files with MyPaint and some with Krita both 8 bit and 16 bit. I am posting the top of the files as seen in Okteta. As you can see the files made by both apps look a bit different. Do I need to write different signatures in photorec.sig for MyPaint and Krita .ora files ? Any help in figuring out the signature would be great.

Well, there is no particular signature: an ora file is a plain zip file that contains some xml and then the pixel data as png images.

Thanks for replying boudewijn.
I didn't know that there wudnt be a specific signature for the file altho I knew it is a zip file of pngs. When I add some common hex from the files to photorec.sig , photorec reads the .ora file as .sxw which itself is a zip text file. Now I know where to look and which files to compare for the hex. Also after some googling I think photorec will still carve the .ora files if I look for .sxw file and I will have to just rename them later. Some people have had such experiences ! Either that or it seems I might have to edit and then recompile photorec, which I don't wanna do. I will try and see, thanks for the help. |
