Memory Leaks ?

Wed May 01, 2013 7:53 pm
Hi,
Krita dev version completely fills up my memory, swap and physical. Even when I just start it and just the open file dialog is loaded, memory simply maxes out.
Doing anything else is impossible while using Krita, like using Dolphin or Gwenview.
I do have hundreds of brushes added.

I am assuming the devs are busy with the next release date coming up, just wanted to report.

It seems to depend on what you do with Krita, i.e. the usage patter. I didn't notice any memory leaks when I painted for about 10 hours yesterday, bhen I started investigating https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=318652, I noticed that it seemed to have to do with moving about layers in and out of groups.

I haven't been able to figure out where the leak comes from, though.

Hmm, interesting. For me it maxes out even when I am on the first empty dialog for creating files. I think I roughly remember since when it started happening. I will try to roll back to a certain commit and see if changes things.

I tried a few recompiles and I still get pretty much the same results. Got some merging errors tho.
I think this started happening somewhere between 36ea0cac and 140d9406.

Once Krita loads a file it runs fine. I dont use Group layers and stick to 3 to 5 layers anyway. Maybe others are not having similar problems. Dunno.

Hm... We really have to dig in. Would it be possible to report a bug on bugs.kde.org and make available a tarball or zipfile with your .kde/share/config/kritarc and .kde/share/apps/krita ?

Might be some system issue? Did you updated KDE recently?

Right, its my brushes folder, actually the no. of brushes.
I moved the brushes folder out of the kde/krita/ and Krita runs smoothly. After adding half the brushes, the ram fills up about 50% and if I add all the brushes it maxes out.
I do have lots of brushes, the folder is 114 mb. Mostly photoshop abr files but some are high res brushes.
I think I will file a bug report later today.

Ah, that's clear! Krita loads all the brushes into memory! So be careful with too many high resolution brushes!
And yes, please, report the bug! :)
