Hi,

I did fresh install of Xubuntu 12.04. After the install I did some terminal installs:

sudo apt-get install ubuntu-restricted-extras xubuntu-restricted-extras
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10 && sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get dist-upgrade (after this I started to get crash reports every time I start the OS)
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:xubuntu-dev/xfce-4.10
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:ubuntu-x-swat/x-updates

Other than this I did just PPA addings of the newest stable release for the programs and then I installed those programs:
sudo apt-get sudo apt-get install agave blender audacity vlc agave gcolor2 gimp gimp-gmic mypaint krita shutter qt4-qtconfig systemsettings

Of course there was lots of sudo apt-get update and sudo apt-get upgrate between those lines and I didn't install all the programs and PPA adding with a single line.

Problem:
When starting Krita I just get flash (like nano second) of Krita splash screen and then nothing happens.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

Can you start Krita from a terminal? If there is a message like "kritapart.desktop not found", please run kbuildsycoca4 and start Krita again.

Okey, This solved the starting issue. I also had to do: sudo apt-get install kdelibs-bin

Now when I start Krita I get this message "Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files."

That very much sounds like a packaging/dependency issue with the xubuntu packages.

Hi,

just dropping to say i had the same exact issue today. Did not find solutions. Can't test atm with terminal. Will do asap and let you know.

Thanks

EDIT: same problem here doing what google01103 suggests. "Could not start process Cannot talk to klauncher: The name org.kde.klauncher was not provided by any .service files."

Running krita from terminal starts, but is pretty "buggy", missing icons, glitches etc...i'm on ubuntu 12.04 and all updates suggested done.

Cheers

Installing oxygen icons should help. if the application is still looking broken you need to install oxygen theme and switch Krita to that as the default Ubuntu theme is broken sometimes.
