Krita on Windows tablet pc

Sat Jul 06, 2013 9:26 am
Hi all,

I have a problem with a wacom penabled pc (thinkpad helix), and krita on windows 8(not krita sketch). When i use the pen, krita won't allow me to draw on my document(i get a ban icon on the cursor), but i managed to draw on the brushes scratchpad(i hope it's called something like that). There seems to be some incompatibility with the driver, because if i uninstall it, the pen works fine(but without any pressure sensitivity). Even tried krita sketch but that's a no go for now in terms of performance, plus it doesn't support wacom pen input. Is there something i can do to solve this(some setting i missed), or maybe the next version of krita will figure it out? I am really keen on using krita more, since it seems to work fine with my intuos(both in windows and linux). One more thing, when i choose brushes and try them out in the brushes scratchpad everything works ok, but when switch to my document, it always resets to the default pixel brush. Seems that it could work but some tweaking is needed..

Thanks in advance,
Thanos

I'm afraid you really have to experiment with driver settings and so on here -- there is no clear reason why it shouldn't work, but because I haven't got access to any hardware like you have I cannot investigate what's going on.

i am gonna try and give some more details in case anybody can figure something out.
If there is anything you want me to try just say so, and i ll do it if i can.

Sometimes the wacom driver for this device gets buggy, so there is a bat file to restart the wacom service. The bat files is as follows,
sc stop WTabletServiceISD
timeout /t 2
sc start WTabletServiceISD

That bat file causes krita to close most of the times. It doesn't affect mypaint though which also supports pressure sensitivity with no problems.
If Krita doesn's shut down while executing the bat file, the pen seems to work with some lag and without pressure sensitivity.
Pressure sensitivity works for the pixel brush in the brush scratchpad, but won't allow picking another brush with the stylus.
Some strokes do happen in the canvas but performance is way too incosistent.

Would be nice to know if krita uses the wintab drivers for pressure sensitivity, or the windows ones, because it may work downgrading the stylus driver.

Anyway, i understand it may be difficult to fix, especially since you don't have access to such equipment. Still you got a great program here, hope you make it even better!
Waiting for the muses training dvd too!!
Anything else i can do to help just let me know.

Let me add one more thing, if after creating a new document in krita i use the intuos, even for one stroke, the tablet pc stylus works good without any problems. Not much of a solution though coz it means i have to keep the intuos hooked up all the time. Anyway, maybe it helps maybe it doesn't.
