Reset Brushes

Sun Jul 07, 2013 5:18 pm
Hi.
I have read a couple of other threads, but havnt been able to find a solution.

I deleted a bunch of the default Krita brushes. I now want them back.

I have tried deleting .directory file, that didnt work. I tried doing a full uninstall and reistal. That didnt work.

I tried deleting the whole paint preset folder. that didnt work

The brush files are there in the directory, but Krita wont load them into its brush pallet.

Any help I can get would be appreciated.

Hi Ohjin,

A file to blacklist preset is responsible.
On my Linux Mint KDE 14 instalation , it is located in /home/deevad/.kde/share/apps/krita , and the file is named kis_paintoppresets.blacklist
You can delete this file or open it with a text editor to erase a specific lines with XML markup in chrage of blacklisting a specific presets.

ex. of a blacklist line :
Code: Select all
 <file>
  <name>~/sources/krita/calligra/calligra-inst/share/apps/krita/paintoppresets/Basic_Airbrush.kpp</name>
 </file>

Ok, Windows installation probably place those usefull *.blacklist files somewhere specific.
Does Windows has a search tool able to scan the disk for *.blacklist ? Sorry to can't help more.

Over which locations did you run the search? Krita should store it's configuration in the user specific application configuration directory (accessible via %APPDATA% I think) on Windows.

I searched over the entire c:/. But krita is installed in C:\Program Files (x86)\Krita\share\apps\krita.

On Windows? If you have Administrator rights (which you probably do if it is a personal system) then you should be able to create a new user account via the Control Panel I believe. If you are on a corporate system, you likely do not have Administrator rights (in which case we can try something else).

That seems a bit excessive, just to try and get the default brushes back.

I can import one in at a time, but is there no way of doing a group import?

Hey, I just thought about something ;
Have you tried :
Edit > Ressources > Clean up removed files
Then close Krita, and start it again. One side effect of removing duplicate backup brush, is also to delete the blacklist.

Good thought. But it didn't bring back the default brushes. Thanks though.

A new user is necessary to test to see if it is a user local issue or a system wide (installation) issue. If the brushes show up under a new user, then we can return to your normal user account and continue to investigate. If they do not show however, you'll probably need to reinstall Krita.
