Is there a way to change to the texture of a brush via the pattern docker, sorta like how you can change to the texture in Corel Painter using papers? I we can that would be super awesome. I tried doing it, but I could only get the texture to change when I went to brush editor and used the smaller pattern window there.

Hm... No, that's not implemented that way. It is fairly obvious, on the face of it, the problem is though that unlike color, the pattern used is saved as part of the brush preset, so we put the pattern selector in the brush editor.

I guess what I'm getting at is that in Corel Painter if you want multiple textures rapidly without changing your brush, the use of papers (textures) to do this speeds things up tremendously. Why have a pattern docker with a larger viewing area if it wasn't for a similar purpose? No worries, I can do without this feature I just was curious about the docker and what purpose does it serve other than being able to view your patterns at a larger scale. Besides, if it worked the way I envisioned once an artist finds a texture/pattern they like, they can still save a preset or change it with new pattern from pattern docker and save another. Thank you for the super fast response.

Well, the docker is for selecting patterns for the fill tool... But you definitely have a very good suggestion here. Could you add a wish to bugs.kde.org? Then it'll get on the todo list... (Which, frankly, is already quite long right now.)

Hi boudewijn, just so you know, this request (for me anyway) has been voided by the new modular brush set. In that set there is an "overlay" and "bump" texture brush which allows me to use the pattern docker to switch textures on the fly - which is what I wanted. I just modified the brushes a bit for my needs and I've been happy since. Not to say that the request isn't still valid, but I no longer need it for myself.

Some Functions are that good hidden in the GUI that even the Dev's haven't found them yet
![]() To clarify this for anyone stumbling over this posting.. How to use a pattern from the pattern-docker with a brushpreset: In the brushwindow choose a pixelbrush and Color -> Source -> Pattern. When the preset is activated it uses the pattern that is active in the pattern docker. You can directly switch between patterns, but the color could not be changed, using the pattern as mask (it would be nice to have the possibility to choose -> use color as mask) |
