Wacom tablet PC pen

Tue Aug 06, 2013 3:00 pm
I have just loaded Krita for the first time...

When I try to use my pen on the canvas it keeps flashing between a crosshair and blocked symbol (red circle with a diagonal line). It makes all the menus slow and if I select a tool it keeps flashing back and forth between the "paint with brushes" tool.

If I use my finger on the screen it all works OK.

I'm using Krita 2.8 pre-alpha on a Windows 8 Fujitsu T902 which uses a Wacom digitiser.

Is there any easy way to make the pen act like a mouse/finger instead?

Thank you.

I've got the same problem on my Lenovo Helix on Windows. The flashing went away after I installed the driver from the Wacom website, but there still is a problem using the pen. Sometimes the pen only registers in the top-left little corner of the screen, and when that doesn't happen, it only paints correctly in the scratchpad, not in krita itself.

I'm trying to find a fix for that, but I'm fairly busy with work stuff these days, so no quick solution is forthcoming.

For what it is worth... On the Helix, Krita works perfectly fine with the built-in pen, except that it's annoying that the touchscreen doesn't get disabled when the pen is on the screen.

I have asked before about the helix problem, but i haven't found any solution regarding krita. Though the same behaviour happens when using the qt 5.1. So maybe it's not krita related. I am not a programmer though, just a thought.

@boudewijn
I have managed to fix the problem with the stylus. There are some solutions over at the Lenovo Forum. In my other posts(it's only 3, won't be hard to find) i have a bat file that restarts the wacom service. That solves the cursor getting stuck at the corner, though it's a temporary solution. What i find works and so far i haven't got any problems with the stylus, is installing wacom driver 7.1.0.8 instead of 7.1.1-12 and then disabling in the device manager, in the wacom input device the checkbox about disabling the device for power saving. I hope it makes sense, else ask and i ll try to explain better.

Hope you find a solution with krita and helix!!!

Cheers!

p.s. I found out that scaling is causing problems with krita, so try having scaling at 100%

So, any luck yet with the stylus issues in win8?

i tried krita gemini 1.3, but didn't work, and krita x64.

No luck yet, but managed to run krita fine in ubuntu dual boot in my thinkpad helix. Still the ubunut 13.04 isn't as complete an experience as is win8 right now.

My only hope lies, so far, with the win 8.1 upgrade(or ofc with some developer work, but i am not trying to pressure you or anything) as it seems to be os related issue.

ps. if it's possible, it should be better if threads like this were moved to the win subforum.

For the Helix, try one of the experimental wintab-enabled builds. See viewtopic.php?f=281&t=117746&p=293917#p293917
