I downloaded the Windows 64bit installer (krita_x64_2.7.9.4.msi), but it's not installing to the correct Program Folder, but to Program Folder x86 like it's a 32bit program?!? It's sitting there in the wrong place saying Krita x64 as the folder name... but clearly it's not in the 64bit program folder.

I'm on Windows 7 64bit. I'm very confused. Is this, or is it not, a 64bit program? Or are you just supplying a 32bit program and marking it as 64bit (as 32bit programs work fine on a 64 bit OS assuming no-one would know if they didn't look at the Program folder location).

It opens etc (tho crashed when I tried to change setting in the startup page), but I wont bother continuing to try it out if it's installing wrong. There is no way to change the install path I see. :(

The next build will have the option to change the install path.

It's a real x64 application, even if it installs to the wrong directory by default. I'm not sure why it does that or how to fix that.

The real worry is that it crashed for you -- that's not usual, especially the most recent x64 builds should be very stable. Did you move the install directory manually? That could explain a crash on loading/creating an image.

No I left the install where it was and never moved anything. A mystery then?! :-\
