Hi Everyone,
First, I just started using Krita I'm really impressed with the functionality, and power. Most of the shortcuts seem to be very similar to Photoshop, if not exact. This is great. However, I seem to have a problem mapping Zoom Mode (listed as just 'Zoom') to a shortcut key. In fact that no matter what key I map to Zoom in the shortcuts menu, nothing seems to activate Zoom Mode. I'm activating the key, and using the left mouse button, or my cintiq stylus in combination. No dice. I'm aware you can use the mouse wheel to zoom, and cntrl+ zooms in discreet increments. This is good, but doesn't work for my workflow. Zoom mode allows me to work quickly. Does anyone know if Zoom mode actually works at all, or if it's just plain broken? If it's a feature that's being worked on, that's fine too. Thanks everyone, -DRP |

It works here on Linux. What is your OS and Krita version?
Then we can figure out why this is happening. |

Hey, welcome on the forum Davidryanpaul , I just saw your Tumblr ( http://davidryanpaul.tumblr.com/ ) , very good work.
I'm not using Windows, and I'm not sure to understand 'Zoom mode'. Here I use numpad + and - to travel to discrete zoom + and - , and for continuous zoom , I use Ctrl+Alt+Space for discrete zoom. Maybe you can set the keys in Preferences > Canvas Input Setting > Zoom Canvas ? Another advice is to try Krita without broken user configuration file ( it can happen if you had a previous install of a 2.8 beta version ) 1) go to Edit > Ressource > Open ressource folder 2) select all your user preferences files on the file manager. 3) cut them and paste them in one of your document folder , to backup them. Krita ressource folder will be empty. 4) Try to launch Krita and see if you can't assign the shortcut. 5) If you still can't , Open back the ressource folder, delete all files, and restore ( paste ) your previous preference files. Last, I know a lot of work have been made not later than last week about shortcuts ; so getting a newer 2.8beta build can be a good solution to see if it was fixed. Good luck ! |

Deevad,
Thanks so much for the quick response and kind words. ![]() Perhaps Zoom 'Mode' my be an inaccurate description. I'll just describe what Photoshop does. You can select the Zoom icon magnifying glass, and that replaces your brush with the Zoom tool. Then you can either click on the screen to zoom by increments, or you can hold down the stylus or mouse and drag left to right to get a smooth scroll. I'm not sure if Krita works like this, but that's what I'm looking to solve for my workflow. I've been using Wacom cintiqs exclusively for years now, and have mapped all my keyboard shortcuts to the express keys and radial menus, in order to behave somewhat like the Maya workflow with marking menus. I never have to touch the keyboard unless I need to enter text. I will try the Zoom Canvas option you spoke of as well. As a side note: is there a way to re-bind the color picker tool to Alt, instead of Control? I can't seem to find a way, even though it might be staring me in the face. Thanks SO much for the help! |

I just tried going to Canvas Input Setting > Zoom Canvas and setting it to the following:
Type - Key Combination Input - Z Action - Toggle Zoom Mode Unfortunately, this doesn't seem to work either. Pressing z does nothing. My cursor still remains as my last selected tool (ex. brush) -DRP |

hey David ; got a Cintiq too here ; but I keep a keyboard next to it
![]() Yes, Krita don't have a tool like a magnifying glass tool to switch from the brush and go back. Your setup with [ Input - Z > Action - Toggle Zoom Mode] 'should' work but you have to hold Z down ( and probably move stylus over canvas while Z is pressed , because a single Z click alone wont be suffisent to make Krita know if you want to Zoom in or Zoom out ). For the color picker , it's in in Preferences > Canvas Input Setting > Alternate Invocation ( action is "Pick Foreground Color" and should be mapped by default on Ctrl+Left Button ) using Ctrl is the Linux way for the last 10 years, I get used to that as it's consistent between Mypaint / Gimp ..etc... |

Yes, holding Z and clicking and dragging with the stylus didn't work. I do appreciate you helping with the suggestion though. Sometimes things are easily overlooked.
And thank you so much for the tip about the color picker. I'll give it a shot. |

UPDATE
All is well. I got the Zoom Mode and Color Picker on Alt key working. At first I was trying Key Combination - Z - Toggle Zoom Mode, and that didn't seem to work. I just realized that it has to be set to Mouse Button - Z+Left Button - Toggle Zoom Mode. Works like a charm. Now to do a deep dive in Krita features now that my workflow stuff has been solved. Thanks so very much for all your help! |
