Hi,

I'm new to Krita. I already made some drawings using only one layer. But now I'm trying to work with layers and I've come across a problem whit the smudge brushes I don't understand.

When I for example use the Basic_smudge_detail brush on my top layer I get some darker areas like on the image below.

But when I use a brush like Basic_smudge_soft it looks like the layer below is also changed, but when I disable my bottom layer I can see that pieces of my bottom layer are copied over to my top layer and that that part is being smudged, which makes me lose my transparency in parts of my top layer, so that changes in my bottom layer are not visible so losing the purpose of using layers.

What I want to achieve is something like this (edited with GIMP).

How can I do this in Krita so I still keep the transparency in all my layers and no dark areas?

Thanks!

Hi,

Which version are you using? There was a bug causing these dark areas when mixing transparency with the color-smudge brush engine, but this has been fixed in upcoming 2.8..

As for the presets that mix layers below, they are using an option of the color-smudge brush engine called "Overlay mode", you can enable/disable this effect on any color-smudge brush preset. Now in default presets, those using this option have a little symbol of a water-drop or a down-arrow to show that they use this.

Thank you for the quick reply Animtim.

It looks like I have version 2.7.5 installed of Krita (the first one I could find on OpenSuse 13.1).
I'll have a look tonight if I can install beta of 2.8 installed on OpenSuse 13.1 (doesn't look like they already have a package available).

I didn't find a build of version 2.8 beta in the OpenSuse packages, but I did find a build of version 2.9 alpha. And indeed, the problem with the dark area when using the smudge brushes are gone.

Thanks again
