Krita Lime PPA, or Build From Source?

I hate starting another one of these topics, but the Kubuntu Backports PPA hasn't updated with 2.8.2 yet, and I still haven't gotten a response from the development team on that. I'm beginning to think nobody checks that email.

The Krita Lime PPA is up to date, though. Precise packages and everything, but the non-testing build is still suggested as potentially unstable. Are those generally fine, in most peoples' experiences?

If I have to build from source for a guaranteed stable build, is there a git repo for Krita exclusively? I wasn't fond of the idea of cloning the entire Calligra Suite's source just for one program, it's far too massive for me.

Krita Lime PPA is just fine.
The devs check out Krita themselves plenty, so if there's major crashes it gets fixed within a day or two.

However, you absolutely need to scrub your device clean of any other Krita installs.

Building Krita yourself is exactly the same as the Krita Lime ppa, there's not much in the way of separating Krita and Calligra, because a lot of Calligra's functionality is used in Krita. However, I feel there's more control over getting the program to work, but that's just me.

You can try to list the Krita Lime ppa, install Krita Testing, and then unlist the Krita Lime ppa if it turns out stable?

That is a huge relief to know, TheraHedwig! A bit sad Krita can't be separated from the whole suite, but since Krita Lime is essentially the same, that saved me a lot of trouble.

I made sure all previous Krita packages from kubuntu-backports were removed, and installed Krita-Testing without a hitch! (Only thing it didn't do was create its own icon and launcher, but that was easily remedied with a Google image search.) Is there an option for installing non-Krita testing, however? I was expecting 2.8.2+git and got 2.9 Alpha. It seems to be running fine for now, so I'll keep it unless it decides to crash over something random.

Regardless, I'm really happy to have an up-to-date Krita, thanks for pointing me in the right direction!

I am fairly sure got 2.8.2 from the backports repo this weekend on my Kubuntu test laptop, I guess it was just a matter of waiting a bit.

I found it:

http://pkgs.org/ubuntu-14.04/kubuntu-up ... 4.deb.html

Code: Select all
Download krita_2.8.2-0ubuntu1~ubuntu14.04~ppa1_amd64.deb for Ubuntu 14.04 LTS
from the Kubuntu Updates repository.
Install Howto

    Enable the repository:

    # sudo add-apt-repository ppa:kubuntu-ppa/ppa

    Update the package index:

    # sudo apt-get update

    Install krita deb package:

    # sudo apt-get install krita

It's secure for update my Unity Ubuntu version 14.04 LTS? I have doubts because I always used lime or backports ppa.
