Gone My lovely brushes oh woe

Sat Jul 05, 2014 1:14 am
So upgrading or installing a newer version does not keep the older brushes on Windows... Anyway I have been meaning to ask about creating brush libraries like the ones peole make for distribution... How can I put custom icons in there, and how can I save or export a collection of brushes? Is there a manual page for this or a tutorial? Is there anyway to point to a whole folder of patterns to see them in thepatterns dialog? On windows as mentioned.

I think I know what you are talking about: the brushes aren't gone. They are just on another location that the current version doesn't use.

Go to (yourusername)/appdata/roaming and you'll see a "Kritagemini" folder and a "Krita" one. "Krita" is the one the current version uses. Just copypaste the content from "Kritagemini" and you have your brushes again.

Thank you very much, I did find them! Originally I had looked in the location you mentioned, but not in the 'painttoppresets', where they all were hidden away! The 'brushes' folder was empty ...like a decoy....

Might you have any tips about opening and editing .kpp files? I would like to change that preview.

You just open them with krita like a regular file and edit the image, then you save and you're done, you have your custom preview :3

Lots of help. You are a bear among bears. Much honey and salmon to you! And an occasional tourist if your tastes run to that.

Well, this doesn't work for me. Krita does not open a .kpp file. I can see (in a text editor) that there's a png in there, but I can't edit in anyway. If I change the extension on a .png to .kpp I can't open it as a resource. The only way I have to create custom previews is to paint it in the brush editor, slowly and with lot of swapping back and forth, if someone has any tips about how to do this I would love to have some more help. Great to have those brushes back though!

Weird... I can open them and edit them and when I open Krita again the new icon shows on the presets docker.

lookie https://www.dropbox.com/s/u5j6lvht6kbc9np/wow.png random brushstrokes over an old kpp

https://www.dropbox.com/s/759nm0jnpk9wcwg/wow2.png the icon on presets docker

EDIT: Have you tried dragging the file to Krita?

I am guessing you are on Linux, Bearsbears? In the open dialog, Krita does not see any .kpp files by default. However, if I drag a .kpp file to the krita.exe it opens. I edited the file association in windows and now it opens when double clicked. But I still can't see .kpp files in the open dialog or in the all supported files list. But thanks to your patience I do have a pretty simple workaround!

I am guessing you have an extra icon in this view of the start screen in Krita between the first and second ones, because I have seen a video in which the person clicks that to go to resources but it was in Spanish or Portuguese ;(
This is what the open dialog is like... Notice it says, "No items match your search", even though there are a lot of .kpp files in that folder! In fact the .kpp file open in the background is from that folder...

Thanks once again for your help. I should mark this query double solved, but I can't...! ;D

I used to use Linux when 2.7 was the current version but now I use Windows. I always dragged the files because it was faster, so i never noticed that.
Also I don't understand what do you mean with the resources thing... But I'm glad all of this helped o/
