Krita keeps crashing my computer!!

Tue Jul 15, 2014 11:16 am
I'm so fed up right now. This has happened almost every time I've worked in Krita. I love the program to death, but it keeps blue screening my poor, brand new computer. I have an HP with Windows 8. I'll be drawing, minding my own business, when all of the sudden BAM, blue screen, with the message "Driver IRQL not less or equal". I looked it up, and it says it has to do with faulty programming, and since the only program I usually use besides skype and chrome is this...it comes down to process of elimination. I've lost hours of work because of this issue (it doesn't always autosave) and tons of frustration to add to it. I'd really like to make Krita my default drawing program, but if these problems keep persisting, I'm going to have to go with something else. If anyone could help me out, it'd be greatly appreciated!!

Is there any hardware or part of your system you are using with Krita that is otherwise not in use (such as a touchscreen or stylus)?

I have a monoprice tablet that i've had for years and it's never given me problems before. That's the only other hardware I use with my computer. I've tried using it with other drawing programs and my computer works fine, the only time it ever has a problem is when it works with Krita.

But Krita doesn't even go low-level enough to cause a blue screen... I get blue screens myself, but that's when the computer overheats because I compile on too many cores in summer... Which version of Krita are you using?

WIth regards to the Monoprice tablet - which driver are you using with it? It could be incompatible with the system - something which only Krita triggers (the other applications may use it in a different manner and therefore avoid triggering the issue).

Analysis of the log message printed out when you get this particular blue screen message may also indicate which driver is at fault (look for *.sys names)

Almost always a device driver fault, and probably your tablet.... You have a Driver that wants (ReQuests) to Interrupt your processor at an unacceptable Level. You might look at your GPU card too or if you don't have one then your on-chip video driver and update it.
Sorry to give you the bad news. To see if it is the tablet or the video driver, unplug the tablet and use Krita with a simple mouse for a while. Not a touchpad, because there might be a driver issue with that as well.
How much memory do you have? Neither Skype nor Chrome use a lot of memory, but if there is a lot of disk swapping when you use Krita your HDD driver may be the cause.
carefully look and see what the most recent updates to your software were. Non-manufacturer and third party drivers raise this error more often. Monoprice does not make these tablets so if you can find out the actual manufacturer there's a possibility that they have a driver that's newer than the one from Monoprice.
