Random crash on right click

Tue Jul 22, 2014 2:27 pm
Hello Everyone,

Sometimes Krita suddenly closes as soon as I right click to bring up the favorite presets. I tried to replicate the bug without any luck and I can't really tell what causes it but it happens in almost every painting session. I need to keep saving constantly other wise I'll just lose my work.
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04, 64 bit with a Nvidia card.

Speaking of Ubuntu. I got another bug recently but I believe it's Ubuntu related and would like to know if any of you guys is experiencing the same thing.
The scaling mode filter is inactive every time I launch Krita. When I go to the setting it's there as selected(I use high quality filtering) but it's simply not working. I always need to go back any other filtering option to make i active and then select the one I want. I doesn't matter what option I choose, It's always inactive by default.

I believe this is caused by ubuntu because it only came up recently after some Ubuntu updates that also messed up unity and freezes the desktop due to conflicts wit the nvidia drivers.

Any feedback?

Cheers

Edit: I'm using Krita 2.8.1

If Krita disables the HQ scaling mode it's because the drivers don't support the level of opengl needed. Start krita from a terminal and check the output.

As for the random crash... I'm getting heaps of bug reports about crashes with 14.04 these days, it's extremely frustrating! Most seem to happen somewhere in the Qt library, and I am wondering _what_ is going on here. I'm beginning to suspect Ubuntu...

Please install the debug packages so it's possible to get a backtrace so we can see what's up.

Thanks for the quick feedback.

As for the terminal:

The last part keeps going as I zoom in and out. It's weird because the filtering used to be active on launch without any problem :/

And that dbus message also isn't something that Krita does -- it must have something to do with the way ubuntu wants to get the menubar items to do stuff with.

Yes, i suspected it was ubuntu related :/

Can you provide a link to the debug packages?

Thanks ;)

Your package manager should offer them -- usually, it's called the same as the other packages, but with -dbg added.

It's called calligra-dbg on Ubuntu:
http://packages.ubuntu.com/trusty/calligra-dbg

If you suspect the Ubuntu menu integration functionality could be causing this crash, you can try removing the following packages, which disables the functionality (restart of Krita required):
Code: Select all
sudo apt-get remove appmenu-gtk appmenu-gtk3 appmenu-qt indicator-appmenu
