Hello, all! So I know the Krita for Mac is still under construction, but I'm really loving it so far! I'm looking to delve into illustration, and this program is so straightforward and clean! Everything that I need to do seems to be working great - except for saving files (kind of a big deal). Every way I try to save my work, it seems to give me an error. I don't have a lot of technical know-how, so my description is going to be limited, but when I try to save as a .jpg, it tells me it can't export the pic as a heightmap because it's either not square or not grayscale. I haven't grayscaled it to find out if there's another directive after that, but all my pics are in black and white anyway. Any help?

Does it work if, instead of selecting the file-type, you hand-type the extension? like image.jpg? or image.kra?
We've had trouble with Krita not understanding what export filter to use(the piece of programming that converts the image in Krita to the desired file-type), but explictely typing the extension has helped in the past, and also helps us narrow the problem down. |

Here's what I tried -
Save As: Hello.jpg (also tried Hello.jpeg) Where: Mac SSD Files of type: All supported formats (also tried .jpg) After this, a "JPEG Export Options" window popped up. I didn't change anything in this window. Then I got a window that said "Error - could not save /Hello.jpg - Reason: could not create the file for saving". |

Ooooh, I think I figured something out!
So I noticed that every time I tried to select one file type from the drop down menu, the program tried to save my project as the next item up on the list from the one I had selected. For instance, when I selected for Krita to save my work as a .png, it turned it into a .ora. I tried this same thing to get a .jpg by selecting .ora from the drop down list and it worked! I didn't get any error messages, either. Is that something easily fixed? At least I think I can use the program this way now! Hopefully this helps! |

The easiest work around is to type the extension yourself -- "bla.jpg" instead of just "bla". I have just booted my mac and I can reproduce the issue -- it's a bug in the way Qt handles the native OSX file dialogs, it seems. It's a never-ending story, I've had to workaround those issues on Gnome too

The latest build on http://files.kde.org/krita has a workaround for this issue in Qt's file dialog code.

Yes, there are a bunch of problems with the OSX version of Krita. That's why the builds are marked as experimental and why we had a 30k euro stretch goal for a finished, polished OSX version. It _will_ cost that much time to finish the port properly, and I cannot afford to fund that myself.
I'm thinking of ways of starting a new fund raiser campaign especially for an OSX version, but I haven't gone beyond vague ideas yet. |

Mac version is actually quite usable already, but there are bugs, yes.
I did pay a little money in previous fundraiser and would definitely do that in next one. I actually got your post card today, thanks! ![]() |
