Cannot install Krita 2.9 Beta

Sat Jan 17, 2015 2:15 pm
Hello,

I'm running Linux Mint 17.1 and I added Krita Lime PPA. I currently have Krita 2.85 installed but when I try to run:

Code: Select all
sudo apt-get install krita

It just says, "software is up to date". It's almost like it's not using the Krita Lime PPA source. I'm thinking of trying a different distro but just wanted to make sure I wasn't forgetting something.

Thanks!
Leo

p.s. Does Krita 2.9 beta install on Elementary OS?

It probably isn't: try

sudo apt-get install krita-testing krita-testing-dbg

But do make sure every bit of the Mint provided krita is gone.

I removed the Krita and then ran your commands and I got the following output:

But I do not see Krita in my applicatios nor does running "krita" from the terminal start the program. It's like nothing was installed.

I just installed Linux Mint 17, so I have no problem trying a different distro if it helps 8)

Fro some reason, on ubuntu, Krita Lime gets installed in /opt/project-neon/krita.

Check there.

Thanks to you both for the help! I found it and it works :)

I don't want to get into a distro war, but is there a distro I should try before sticking to Mint? Just curious as to what the Krita community prefers.

The one distro that I totally bar is Ubuntu (not Kubuntu, Ubuntu). It messes with libraries and color management and menus and things... For development, I use OpenSUSE. Others use Fedora. For people who are really knowledgeable, Arch is a good choice. Mint should be fine. We don't hear a lot about Mageia these days. Gentoo is awesome, but if you've got a bug, you need to spend quite a few hours investigating whether it's something distro-specifc before reporting it. If you use Linux From Scratch, don't come and tell me that Krita doesn't build -- that's your job, then. Personally, I keep using Kubuntu and OpenSUSE.
