Kita's lag?

Mon Mar 23, 2015 9:54 pm
I've been having lag issues when using Krita. I've used Krita since the Mac version came out, and I love the program. Sadly, when I updated to the newest version, there was quite a bit of lag. Nothing had changed with my computer, the same operating system, same model.. ect. This lag is so intense that I cannot draw, I'll make a mark and wait ages for it to show up. When it does it's shaky and messed up. I understand that the Mac version is still unstable, but it worked fine until now. I've tried restarting and redownloading the application but nothing has worked.

Thanks in advance!

Hello, I was just suggested a fix for this same problem. If you go to Krita > Preferences > Display and uncheck the "Open GL" box, Krita should work without lag. I am unsure of what Open GL actually does, however, so I don't know how this will affect your work.

I don't know what Apple is doing to its opengl drivers -- we didn't change any canvas code for quite some time as well. For some osx users, disabling opengl solves problems (like the popup palette not showing up), or, as you say, lag while painting, while for others working with opengl disabled doesn't work at all.

The opengl switch switches between hardware accelerated canvas and cpu-based canvas: the opengl canvas has more features, should be faster and more responsive, but it's dependent on having good opengl drivers available. And I know about a bunch of bugs with opengl on OSX, but I just don't have the time to fix it.
