The "preset strip" from the "edit brush settings" (button above canvas) simply stopped showing ANY of the brush icons.
Right before that happened, I only remember changing keyboard shortcuts, so I went back to the shortcut window and pressed the Reset button. However, the button doesn't actually do anything either, so there's 2 bugs in one report. Any tips? |

If I were you I'd try by closing Krita and by renaming the folder with the preferences, to prevent Krita from seeing it.
Depending on your system, the location of the folder is: - On Linux: /home/<username>/.kde/share/apps/krita/ - On Windows, I guess: c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Roaming\krita (or c:\Users\<username>\AppData\Local\krita) Hope it solves and good luck ![]() |

Sorry, I've overlooked the second part of your comment.
I can confirm that by hitting the "Reset" button, the presets vanish from the strip on the brush editor. I guess you've spotted a real bug. |

Also, to fix the problem on linux I have to remove: /home/<username>/.kde/share/config/kritarc (I'm not sure on Windows).

Can't find that folder. Also, that doesn't seem like a proper solution. Won't that destroy any and all possibility of customization? I just want the brush icons back in the preset strip.
I'm afraid to use this software. There's another silly bug that does not let you increase the size of the brush docker. And another one where you can't increase the horizontal size of the right dockers. I really don't want to waste 10 hours in a project that will go into the trash over some silly annoying bug. |

For the records, I've double checked and I was wrong it's not the culprit. |

I tried to reinstall but couldn't even find the uninstall program (where is it??). So I uninstalled via windows anyway. Installed the program again and, well, no change at all. The settings were not removed with the program and were there when I opened it again. searching for more I found out that The Krita files are burried deep in C/users/username/appdata/roaming/krita/share/apps/krita . Deleted that folder according to recomendation, but it only wiped the single brush I created. The aforementioned preset strip STILL shows no icon for ANY of the brushes. Mind you, all brushes are actually there. They show up in the "all" tag in the brush docker, with all their preset configurations just fine. But none of them show up in the preset strip, making it impossible to change brushes using it.

I "solved" the problem. Uninstalled again via windows and wiped the ENTIRE krita folder out. Reinstalled it and all the icons show up just fine. Also the brush docker shows all the icons without the need to select the "all" tag after start up, also a permanent bug from before. Also the standard layout is back. This layout is not saved in the presets (why, oh why??). The right dockers can be expanded horizontally again.

Again, I set new shortcuts and the icons vanished once more. That's it for me. I can't run into any of that while working on drawings unless I want to get wrecked for over ten hours of my time not counting the many hours wasted on broken UI and searching bug fixes in the internet. Krita shows promise to be the very best free painting software, and I can see it actually working and taking artists by storm in the near future. However, I don't live in near future.
If there's anyone who works in the project reading this, maybe this information is useful. Here are the things I did before the icons vanished again: - Created a new canvas to test stuff - Created 3 brushes - Created a new tag for brushes: "favorites" and assigned my created brushes to it - Set the following custom shortcuts: Zoom out: q Zoom in: w Decrease brush size: a Increase brush size: s Rotate canvas to the left: d Rotate canvas to the right: f Something with the shortcuts or the tag is the probable cause. Pretty sure I closed and reopened Krita after doing the other things and no problem was found. |

Sorry, but I just cannot reproduce that issue, so I have no way of fixing... However Wolthera reports that she has seen the same thing on Linux, so it isn't Windows specific either.
For the record, and for every Windows user out there: * Krita uses Microsoft's installer framework, so it's perfectly normal that there's no separate uninstall program. Use the control panel for that. * If you encounter an issue, uninstalling and installing the same version will never solve it. Krita doesn't do anything weird, it just places stuff in Program Files\krita or Program FIles x86\krita * If you want to clean your user data, close Krita, press windows-r, type appdata, and in the explorer window which opens, go to Roaming or Local (depending on your setup) and rename the krita folder. Now you'll start with clean settings. |

I just recreated the bug. The cause is simply adding a new tag in the brush docker, nothing else. I deleted the entire Krita folder from the User folders. I restarted Krita and everything was back to default. I created a new tag "Favorites" in the brush docker. I closed and reopened Krita. The brush docker no longer showed any brushes by default, just like before. Now you have to choose a tag manually to see the brushes. And in the preset strip, no brush icons at all.
I would like to suggest some other things too. The scratchpad remains with your sketches even if you change brushes. What happens is that, if you choose another brush to configure and you save after doing so, the drawings in the scratchpad will overwrite that brush's icon. And, please make a reset curve option or something. Took me ages to figure you have to slide the dots of the curve to the corner if you want to get rid of them. Also, the reset button in the shortcut menu doesn't do anything. |

Hm, I've seen the brush preset docker being empty, though selecting "All" would show all brushes again - this is probably because we now try to remember the last used tag... I still haven't been able to reproduce the issue with the preset strip in the brush editor, though other people than you have, so we're sure there's a bug here!
For your other three suggestions: 1. https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=322677 2. We're collecting issues with the curves filter (which hasn't had love since 2005 or so...) Please make a bug report about it so we can add it to the redesign. 3. Sounds like another bug and I have an idea what's going on... Could you please make a bug report? |
