how to copy and paste in the same layer?
For example, I have a selection, when I press ctrl+C and ctrl+V, it will paste the selection as a new layer can I paste it in the same layer instead or this is the behaviour of krita?
Also, does the shortcut key ctrl+` for resetting the canvas view work in 2.9 ? It doesn't work when I use it .Is this a bug?
One more thing, can I draw a straight line when using the brush tool like what you can do in mypaint by pressing shift?

As far as I know there is currently no way to paste an object directly on the active Layer. But the copied layer will always appear over your active layer so you can use "merge with layer below". Just right-klick on the layer in the Layer-Docker.

The shortcut ctrl + ` also don't work for me. I could find neither the shortcut in the Settings nor this function (I use version 2.9.5). Maybe It's not implemented yet?

Straight lines can drawn by using the "Line Tool" (it's the symbol which looks like a ruler).

straightline tool: use shift.
Copy paste same layer: not possible. This is not the GIMP.
Ctrl+` , we have our canvas rotation reset on '5', this is the first time I heard of ctrl+` being used for that...

This changes the brush size ;)
The Line Tool doesn't have a hotkey by default.

Thx for all the reply. It seems I have to get use to how krita handles copy and paste and the straight line tool.
I do know that 5 can reset the canvas but I some of the websites shows that ctrl+` do the job. One more problem, in the shortcut settings, I can't see anything regarding the use of the numbers but it does work, is it not open to user to set it ? When I assign the 5 key to any function, no warning about the conflict will show up.

The same problem with the "V" button for the Line tool. There was no warning about the conflict. I tested what happens if I assign the key to another function. So I changed the shortcut for the mirror view to "V".
If I press now the "V" Key it performs both functions.
(Which results in interesting pictures...)

There's two shortcut areas, one in settings->configure Krita->canvas input settings, and one in settings->configure shortcuts.

There are technical reasons why these are separate, we do want to merge them, but it's going to take a lot of effort, and we first need to finish other projects before that. (Mainly the QT5 port)

Hi!

The only way I found to paste a selection on the same layer on Krita is with these steps bellow:

1) Copy the content you need. Ctrl + C will copy only the selection in the active layer. Ctrl + Shift + C will copy all the layers under and over selection.
2) Paste the content with Ctrl + V (will paste over the selection in a new layer) or Ctrl + Alt + V (will paste at cursor).
3) Merge the two layers (the former one and the new one created when you paste) with Ctrl + E.

I'm learning about how to use Krita in order to do online math classes. So, when I draw some object and want to copy and paste over the same layer, I just press Ctrl+C; Ctrl+V and Ctrl+E, using the move tool to position the new object however I want.

I hope this help you because this took me several days to learn... ;D

I just got the answer. In Krita 5.0 this feature has been added, but by default it wont work. You need to do 2 things:
1. Go to Settings > Configure Krita > General > Tools, and tick the box at 'Activate ransform tool after pasting'
2. Go to Keyboard shortcuts and search for 'paste into active layer'. By default it has no shortcut. Give it one you want it to be
And voila. This hotkey will now do what you want.

@greycore
1. Is only needed if you want all paste actions to switch to the Transform tool on the pasted content.
2. If you set a keyboard shortcut for Paste into Active Layer (I suggest Ctrl+Shift+V) then the Transform tool is automatically activated on the pasted content whether or not the 'Activate transform tool after pasting' option is enabled.

yesterday i installed krita 5(plus version). I'm an animator and I use the 'paste to active layer' feature a lot. yesterday i saw that this is not working correctly in the new upcoming version. When the selected part is pasted to the next frame, it pastes it in the middle of the scene or in an unrelated place. I think the paste feature is broken in the same location where I copied it. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1p-drfXONRNQnBvncMlRKIBb-tl5q-nwX/view?usp=sharing
