I just set up References on Krita to do a drawing. No problem there but I do have a general question. I noticed that the Reference docker (is that what we call it) is only picking up PNG images. Is this the default and can I make it pick up other images such as jpg. If I can, how do I do it. All the Best--Jay

Hello jdonovan,
I am unable to reproduce your problem on my computer (maybe you hit a bug...). More precisely, on Windows 7 (64 bit) with Krita 2.9.6 (git30d614e) I do open (visualize) everything through the reference image docker (Settings > Dockers...) I have tried with jpeg, tiff, nef (that is, the raw file by Nikon), xcf (by Gimp), psd (by Photoshop) and everything works fine (tried different folders). To my knowledge, Dng (the "raw" proposed by Adobe) is not supported by Krita but the other ones (jpeg, tiff etc) should work fine with the reference image docker. Just out of curiosity, which version of Krita and what system (Linux - Windows) are you running on your side ? |

I am operating on a MAC Yosemite Operating System. It's been running flawlessly and I am quite pleased with my results so far so I suspect it might be something that I may be doing. Any thoughts?

There's no reasonable reason for that to work differently on OSX than on other systems, but like most features, it hasn't been tested on OSX. When I get back from vacation, I intend to sit down for a day or so and make an OSX plan, but executing that probably will entail another fund raiser....

Yes, I understand--and except for a few bits of strange things that I have been able to work around, Krita is performing beautifully. Regarding the references, I want to believe its me before I believe it's the software so let me ask this quick question:
could I have set the reference docker to only see the .png files---maybe I did something that a quick click could fix. Thank you very much for you time.--jay |

No.... There's no setting like that.

Well, that being said I will keep trying to see if I can pinpoint the problem.
I am not a person of great financial means but if you have a bug sheet or something like that or a way I can log this kind of stuff for you I would be happy to do so. Also, if and when the time comes, I would be more than happy to put in time as a beta tester. I wish I could offer more.--Jay |

You can just report bugs at bugs.kde.org (needs a seperate login from the forum), and then file your bugs under the product 'krita' and set your operating system to 'OSX' of course

Ok that sounds good. In the meantime, I will copy my reference library over to my pc and also use Krita there. It will give me a good opportunity to compare the two. Thanks for the advice and good luck with any development. I am assuming you will raise money through something like Patreon or Kickstarter (Patreon is more for artists but it might be a good venue as well).

I've been working on a patreon page, but I'm not sure what I can actually give people in return for being patrons. After all, Krita is already there

You know, your model looks uncannily like the blender model in terms of how you guys are set up as a community effort to bring forth a free but outstanding product.
One thing I noticed about Krita is that it's really great for making textures and such so I am assuming that you guys are working on some sort of relationship with the Blender Foundation (I am very out of the loop her so excuse me if I am just repeating same old same old) and if that is the case maybe blender has a grant laying around that will help you with development. And speaking of grants--there are grants to be had from governments (god help us all) so if there is a Krita member or KDE member who is all knowing in grant writing, it's an avenue that you might want to explore. Think arts grants. Again, I am not a developer or a coder so I cannot be of help there and I live in between the walls of an old church and sustain myself by stealing moldy cheese from on old blind parson (poor as a church mouse) but I am happy to keep my ear to the ground for any opportunity for you--not just for the mac side but for the entire krita project. |

I don't know about uncanny... I'm consciously trying to copy everything that works from Ton's model. To do more than survive, to flourish, a project has to keep growing, and that needs funding. Longer blogpost will be coming soonish
