Nerfed perspective tool?

Thu Aug 13, 2015 10:41 am
A few months ago I tried Krita as a replacement for Gimp, and was really taken in by the perspective assistant. I've tried it again now and it seems to be, well, lacking?

First off, you can't seem to be able to move the perspective grid - the arrowy handle thing doesn't appear.
Second off, the grid doesn't persist when you open the file again (though I might be incorrectly remembering that it was there the first time round :) ). This is a massive bummer as I do my drawing in small bursts around other work. So if I haven't finished my grid-based sketches, I'll need to recreate that grid the next time I start.

Last time I tried it I was on Archbang, and at the moment I'm on Xubuntu 15.04. I used Krita 2.9.2 both times. Could it be some kind of system issue?

I'll still stick to Krita over Gimp I guess, as Gimp has a lot more weirdness going for it. It'd still be nice to have a powerful perspective tool though.

Are you sure you're not confusing the perspective assistant and the perspective grid tool? Assistants should be saved, if they aren't we've got a new bug...

You need to use the perspective assistant(use the ruler-assistant editor), not the perspective tool. The perspective tool is kinda on it's last legs, and there's only one bit of functionality that still needs porting.

Oh yes, you're completely right. When I tried it this time I didn't check the Tool Options panel for the ruler assistant tool.

It's crazy how powerful the perspective tool is, actually. Thanks for your work on this.

Kinda unrelated, but I tried 2.9.6 on my machine and it was broken in a couple of ways, so I had to switch back to 2.9.2, which is the version that comes in my normal repositories. Are you accepting bug reports from non-KDE-using distros?

Well, I hope we are accepting non-kde distro bugs, because otherwise I am not sure why we keep all the windows and mac OSX bugs open...

I use gnome on my desktop, windows on my SP3 and plasma5 on my laptop, especially because I want to make sure krita is fine everywhere :-)
